long time 968 owner intro

Hi guys I wanted to introduce myself and my 968 that I have owned for over 10 years. I was a Porsche technician in the late 90's and switched to Audi when they were getting very popular in the early 2000's. Long story short my 968 was traded in with a bad pinion bearing. I rebuilt the tranny and drove the car once in awhile for about 10 years. My wife at the time over corrected during some spirited driving and hit a curb with the R/R wheel and bent the torsion beam and crushed the rear lift point. The insurance company totaled my baby because new torsion beams were no longer available and they did not want to risk buying a used one. While that car sat as a winter project for a few years I picked up an 89 turbo S with the insurance money. The 968 is back on the road with the lift point corrected and the rear suspension replaced. Now I have a 968 and a 944 turbo, but I really only have time and a place to store one car. Question is what do I do with my 968 with such a storied past? What do you guys think it's worth? Car has nice paint, it's been completely repainted during my ownership as the original paint was in OK shape. Respray was windshield out, but 1/4 windows stayed in. I would say it's an 8 out of 10. There are some flaws that would never be noticed by a non trained eye, but I can spot every defect. Interior is OK with some dash cracks and some bogus 5" speakers installed in the door panels by the previous owner :grr: Currently has about 105k miles

Jeff, could you run the specifics on my VIN? I am curious to know more about it. WP0AA2969RS820485

Here's some pics of both my cars

Thanks for any input,

So the 968 has a rebuilt title? I would say you would have to document the repair well and there would be someone out there to buy it.

Funny that another white 968 comes up, it seems that everyone we have been discussing lately is white!

Are you in the Chicago area? If so, I would be interested in seeing the car.

I loved that the car was white! I have always been a fan of white cars. I currently own a pearl white 2002 S4. I have always wanted a white E39 540i or M5, but every time one is for sale they fetch too much $$ or have a tan interior. The title is clean, but the carfax probably shows the accident. I ran the carfax when I bought the car and it showed a total loss reported in FL in 1995. I inspected the car and found no signs of collision damage so I assumed it was theft or flood damage. Like I said it has a storied past. This car is a perfect driver or track car candidate. It will never have any collector value and definitely needs sorting. I probably drove the car less than 500 miles a year when I owned it and was always busy fixing other peoples cars. I no longer live in Chicago, but the car is still there. I live in Atlanta and my 944 here is with me. On a side note Paul I have worked on your cars once or twice when I worked at Laurel.

It's a small world......who is this mystery ex-Laurel tech? Will send you a PM

Nice machines. I sent you the prod info. People will buy cars with storied pasts. I have the Matador. One of the rare speed yellow cabs has a history. The history will effect the price but the buyers are out there,

That's odd it has a clean title if it was totaled at some point. Personally, it might make more wary if I found a car like that, but if you can document what happened, you'll find a buyer.

I wouldn't say it will "never" be a collector car. There at a lot of 356's out there with stories that seem to have been forgotten as their price went up.

So I am thinking about yanking the motor from the 968 and putting it in my 944 as a 3.0 8v turbo. Possibly selling the 968 as a roller or an LS6 swap. I figure I cannot replace this car for what its street value is. I had some PM's about the car and I will call them in the new year. Paul I will give you a call before I come back in town.

"totalled" does not equal "salvage" or "unclean" title. Let me repeat……!!!!!
and, yes, the one to your left was "totalled" and no longer has a title at all.
The SY car was "totaled", never had a "salvage" title and to this day has a clean title.
