it's interesting that the photo's make it look that way..... because in reality they are not far off from each other.
Last Fall, I was preparing my 20' enclosed trailer,... since it had always been used for our 964 Turbo (as well as '68 & '69 Camaro's),... and we had just bought our '10 997.2 GT3,... so I had to do a lot of measurements.
The width between rear tires on the back end of both cars are very close. I have the measurements for my 964 Turbo,... but at the moment can't find my GT3 measurements. I'll get them later & add to this post.
Side by side, width to width, the only "real" sizeable difference between the two is the front nose, and how far the 997 sticks out forward from the front tires.
IMO there are obvious & perceptive shape differences that cause optical illusions,... but in my garage they are equal in size.
Btw, spent the entire weekend driving backroads in PA with the GT3. It was the first time my wife & I spent an entire weekend tour driving in something other than a air-cooled Turbo. I literally felt like I was falling in love with another 911 car, just as I did 15 years ago when we fell for the 964 Turbo.
I have room in my heart for 2.

That might work with cars Steve LoL.
Actually I find it interesting how small the early 911's are compared to my 928 yet my boxster and 928 are almost identical footprints with the boxster being a bit larger. By the time you get to the 991's the footprint is considerably bigger and can't even fit one on my trailex.
My friend just picked this up a few weeks back. It was supposed to be delivered with black magnesium wheels but it doesn't look like Porsche will come through with them. Instead he got these wheels with Dunlop vs Michelin tires. You spend all this money and you can't even get what you spec anymore. This car is huge in comparison to our turbos. I think you could pick up the body and place it over the turbos and not even touch any of the turbo body.

^^Steve, the car really really appears to be smaller than the 997. Even my wife commented on this and she does not care about any of them.
Or maybe I own a 963 which is the 90% scaled down version of the 964!

personally, I think that pictures on the web will never do this conversation justice. The lens within the camera (& person behind it) can adjust any way you want with depth, etc.
But I think we can all agree, since hard measurements will not lie, that the footprint of the 2 cars are very very close to each other. BUT, since the inner body of the 965 is so much smaller than the 997, it gives the impression of the 997 being so much more bulkier.
Last year when this same thing intrigued me in the garage,.. I started measuring widths behind the rear windows,... and that's where I saw a big difference.
So my opinion here is that,... (when standing directly behind the two cars),... because the eye draws "up & in" from the extenuated rear hips of the 964, the inner body of the 965 will always look so much smaller.
It's the core of the car that is smaller. It's that squeeze in the middle,... which is ALSO why I think the 964 Turbo will always be the sexiest car ever built. Googling Jessica Rabbit comes to mind (or Sofia Vergara)...
But as a real good test Igooz,... in that picture you first posted above (#690), with the 965 squeezed between the GT2 & GT3RS, if you moved the 964 back about 12-14 feet, I'd like to see how that changes the perspective.

Steve, Those look GREAT!!!!! I agree with what everyone wrote above....while the track is very similar to the older 964/965 the "volume" of the car is much greater... I do however love the hourglass shape of the older Turbos.

You can try GT-racing They used to sell a copy although they are never the same as the original. I have an original factory Turbo S tail in it's original gel coat and the shrouds hanging on my garage wall but it would take 5 figures for me to let it go.
