Default 964 3.6 Turbo vs 993 C2S

I may be finally pulling the trigger on my dream car in the next few months. I've wanted a 993 for a long time and had pretty much made up my mind that a 993 Carrera was the car for me. And then I saw this at Holt.

I want a 911 becuase it's been my dream car since I was a kid, and the investment is not a driving force behind my desire to own one. Still, besides the achingly good looks of this Turbo II, it would seem to me that this model would be a increasingly desirable car in the future because of it's low production numbers. Thoughts? Also, how "twitchy" are these and do they have alot of turbo lag?

Turbo lag is not a problem. The 3.6 has less lag than most and lag can be reduced on any of them anyway. I really liked my 3.6. It was probably my favorite. It has nearly new car comfort and still retains classic car appeal. Very fun to drive.

I almost bought this exact car before i found my Cobalt blue one. This was back in 2001 or 2002 not sure.

The 993 C2S is a very nice car and as far as the 993's go it might be the most desirable of the N/A versions. With that said there is no comparison to a 94 turbo. the 94 turbo is just the quintessential rwd turbo. It has the looks the feel and the power to back it up. The car can be easily modified with simple bolt on mods to put down the FWHP to the ground.

The market for any of these cars is tough and unless the car you are looking at has less than 10k miles collectible values are subjective and it all depends on when you plan to sell.

Don't buy a car like the 94 turbo as an investment buy it to enjoy it. Other than some of the earlier RS cars there is nothing more thrilling to drive than a 964 turbo especially the 3.6.

just make sure you have the car properly inspected prior to purchase.

Thanks for the responses. Alas, the car in the link is now sold. Are these hard to find? How often do they come up for sale? I'm seriously considering one of these instead of a 993 C2/C2S.

Surprisingly for so few left in the US (guessing at < 300 still here) they come up for sale relatively often. Although pricing and condition can vary considerably. low mileage mint cars have seen numbers as high as $98k with one asking over $100k now at RPM and real rats will bring low $40k. I have seen damaged cars with salvage titles bring high $30k's Most of them were painted black with a large number in red. Metallic colors are hardest to come by and color can add $$ onto the price depending on what color your talking. It is the luck of the draw finding the right car for your needs. Ironically the car you just looked at did the same thing to me. I was all set to pounce on it and before I knew it , gone.

It took me 6 months to find the right car and I leaned a lot about them in the process although I made my task a bit extreme although ended up with a very rare car.

There is a gorgeous slate gray one for sale now just check the other posts.

That slate gray car is awesome!

I would buy a 993C2 and spend the difference later on engine improvements and wider rear fenders. The premium that C2S calls for is really not worth the extra money on a car that is already begging for some power mods.
