is it ok to use 235 40 18 on the front
i have recently had the alignment done on 225 40 18, if i was to now use 235 40 18 up front would this alter the geommetry in any way

It will not affect the geometry although the car will sit a little higher at the front.

I am running 235/35/18's up front with no issues. Rolling dia is the same within .300 of the 225/40 so you should be OK.
