Default My Boost Gague is gone!

Hi all
Since owning my 94 3.6C2 there has never been a boost gague in the car.
Even the original manual says there is not one there, but that has to be a misprint. I know it's a turbo because I have seen it under there!
Seriously though, can anyone help me with how the wiring should be set out for the boost gauge, as usless as they appear to be from all the past topics about them.
I am picking that there's a wire or 2 off somewhere. The other explanation is the last owner has used another speedo from another car that reads less milage than the car has really done. Yes, people have been known to do this in the past
Hopefully thats not it though as the service history all seems to stack up.
But when I flick through the readings on the "computer" there is no sign of a boost gague.
It would be nice to have one for once and we don't have anyone competant within about 200 miles to look at the car for me.
It can't be too difficult....................can it?
Thanks
Graham

The boost guage is in the OBC and is displayed at idle as 0.0 bar up to 0.7 bar at full boost - i think it is the displayed item before the outside temperature on mine

1. The OBC is in the tach not the speedo.

2. I'd bet someone swapped the tachometer out for a normally aspirated tach.

3. Pull the tach out and see if it's a 964 or 965 part #

Grahm,
Like he said it is in the tach. Check to see that you have the boost sensor in the back of the intercooler (big orange rubber boot covered switch).

BTW I have a tach with the OBC from 94 3.6T mint .
Email me if you are interested in it .

I pulled the tach out and the part number starts with 00413149, or something like that. Hard to read backwards and upside down with a mirror using a torche.
I know it's in the tach. I was having a senior moment!
I am thinking Flacbau is right and the tach has been swapped over or something.
I do have a boost sensor. I am keen on the one you have. Want to PM me?
Makes you wonder why it wasn't replaced with the corerect tach though.
Thanks

Graham,

Do you have a reading for fuel consumption? Turbos don't but N/A do. I think that would strengthen the case for it being a N/A Tacho.

That said, the OBC boost reading is a complete waste of time, and I'm not sure I'd be spending money to get it...but then again if you've got an originality scratch that has to be itched, then there's only one option. Cough up for Elliot's one.

BTW: Elliot, did you ever sell the control arms you had?

Hi there John
Hows the island life treating you?
Yes my OBC does have fuel consumption. It always looks bad too!
Ahh, so it looks like we have solved my nearly 2 year old mystery.
Yes I will grab Elliots one if we can sort that one out. I know they are useless, but it would be nice to have an original all the same.

Apart from seperation anxiety with the car, island life is good. Sounds like we're missing the best NZ summer in decades. Hope it holds out until early May when we're back for a holiday!

Not sure why you need this, once the boost is over about 0.5 you need to be looking at the road ahead

I know what you mean, but the car was supposed to have one, no matter how bad they were!

Graham, I'd have to agree with John here (no offence Turbohead). The boost gauge is totally useless. It's often inaccurate from what I have read and only goes to .7 bar. No good if you want to run 1 bar of boost like you should be If the gauge there looks factory then you'd be better of shelling out a lot less sheckles for a digital turbo timer with a built in boost gauge http://www.robearracing.com/pd_blitz_dual_turbo.cfm http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Mo...n-48175411.htm. That way you kill two birds with one stone and have a boost gauge that reads right past .7 bar. JMHO. Get a nice subtle black one and tuck it out of the way below the lower dash or in the cubby hole in front of the shifter then

Hi James
Point taken. But it is still better to have hte original all the same. Even if they are rubbish!
Those Blitz gagues look like they should be in a Jappa, and not a Porsche. They look really tacky too me
How difficult is an after market boost gague to connect up anyway? Ever done it? I have heard of some really nice units that fit in where the clock goes. That would be a better bet.
Might call you later anyway.
Cheers

Grahm,
I agree with you on the OEM part, I also put an E boost controller (made down under) it really improved performance.
It has a boost gauge function very accurate .You might consider that too.
