Default Door pocket reinforcement

Guys-
FYI on the 964 Board there is a guy who has made/is making some door pocket reinforcements for the 964 (after doing 993 ones for a while). Looks like people are quite satisfied. No affiliation. I ordered up a set and happy to give you guys my thoughts when I get them and get around to installing them.

I have seen them crack in the earlier 911's but my 965 are perfect, Maybe because the screws aren't overly tight,

mine are perfect too on 964 Turbo,.. but I remember I had lots of sagging on my '79 SC.

Do not recall whether the support bracket design changed over that time or not.

I looked at my 964T, and see no need to add a add'l piece of plastic for extra beef support.

The tops were saggy and the pockets were warped in toward the interior on my SC but the 964 vintage ones seem to be much more robust.

Brandon, are you referring to the plastic bracket that the pocket lid pivots on?

well I can help answer that Paul.... no, it's a piece of heavier plastic that sits on the front end of the pocket (up near the door handle end of the pocket) on the inside, and is being used to help those where that original piece of plastic has a broken hole where the screw/bolt goes thru.

The other 964 thread that as the "offer" for the guy making these pieces, has good pics & description of exactly what this piece is, where it goes, and how it installs.

But you are right Paul, it seems the 964 Turbo's don't really seem to exhibit this problem.

Hmmm, I put my pocket back on the driver's door Saturday night and I didn't see anything like that.
Time to consult the PET.

When I looked at mine,... I don't think it was a separate piece in the original construction of the pocket frame,... but rather part of the entire pocket frame.

So the integrity of that area gets compromised over time, and thus, this guy built a NEW piece (sized according to his own design) that "fits" into that area, and sorta gives you a new hole for the screw to hold it tight do it's job again (so the top cover doesn't fall down into the pocket like our SC's did).

Not sure I'm doing a good job describing it. sorry bout that.

Here's the PET snip. Which part are you referring to, Steve?
What I see is that the lid (22) pivots on the plastic molded spring housing (27) and the grab handle (15). The pocket itself (11) attaches to the door through holes in the door panel. Also, the pocket is attached to the spring housing, which is then attached to the door. What's not shown is, on my car, there is a fastener that attaches the pocket to the back side of the grab handle (15). The pocket itself is made from molded plastic, not the pressed cardboard of the earlier cars.

like I tried to say in post #9, there is no "part". ie, no separate part that Porsche put at the front of the (11) pocket. so it would not show in PET.

I believe the guy making this NEW part, is basically making his own reinforcement that fits into the front section of the pocket.

I think I must not be describing this well enough. Have you read through the entire 964 thread? cuz that's where I got the impression of what it is.

Ok, I see it now.
Got confused when you said "frame".

I kinda forgot about this - and frankly it's been a while since I paid attention - but my recollection is that the hole that a screw goes through to mount the pocket to the door gets stressed and cracked. On mine I think it is at least.

Funny thing is I ordered up a set - only $12 - and when they showed up a few weeks later with no reference to what they were - I had NO idea what they were. It took me a few hours to realize what they were. funny. Anyway If I remember I'll take a look at my pockets again tonight.

OK so tonight I looked at my driver side door pocket again - there is a screw that faces forward - attaching the pocket to the armrest (?) and on mine the pocket is cracked and separating at the mounting hole. I have not looked at the passenger side.

Anyway looks like it's not a super common issue but it happens.
