Default Exhaust question/ opinion

Guys,

After a wave of relief from discovering my metallic noise wasn't engine related, but a spilt secondary, I've mentally moved on to getting a new exhaust system.

I bought the car with a cup pipe and a cat bypass. I'm contemplating the fully system from FVD or the RSR setup from Fabspeed. My question is on the heat exchangers. I don't think I'd miss the heat much, have any of you done this and have feedback? Anyone with the FVD or fabspeed rsr setup, please let me know what you think.

I thought I'd put up a pic of my current set up. I really like the idea of a cleaner configuration. Thinking of going with dual tips while I'm at it.

Thanks guys,
Tim

I think it gets cold in Michigan, but I may be wrong. I am in the North East and I don't drive my car below 40 degrees and it's a wrap once salt is on the road. Even then I have used my heat a little on those cooler drives. I have the fabspeed heater bypass with stock heat exchangers and it's more than enough heat. If you plan on driving under 50 degrees, you will want heat. Also, the fabspeed heat exchangers don't put out as much as the stock exchangers.
I would keep the heat exchangers and just go for a new exhaust.

Also, I just added the dual tip to my fabspeed exhaust and the fvd left bumper cut out. The fvd comes with no holes drilled, so it must be fitted and drilled prior to paint. I also had to trim about a half inch off the fabspeed tail pipe flange to get the left tip centered in the exhaust cut out.
So there is a bit of fitting of everything involved. Not quite a bolt on experience.

The right side is a couple of years old and the left is brand new. Also, in that time fabspeed has changed the tips slightly, so mine are close, but not exactly the same. The new one has "Fabspeed" on the tip. They are close enough for me not to buy a new right side. After a while the left will age like the right one. Fabspeed tips are welded to the pipe and the tailpipe flange is clamped to the muffler. The second exhaust tip deepens the exhaust note. Some had issues with drone around 3000 rpm so I have a car chemistry insert just in case, but I don't need it. The exhaust is louder and deeper than a single output, but I like it. I think the car looks better with dual exhaust tips, plus it distinguishes it from a stock car, not to mention the sound.

The fvd left bumper looks like it is a factory part, but it must be fitted probably.

I also used automotive trim between the tail lights and the bumper to clean up the gap. Worked out great.

Fabspeed heat exchangers are garbage. That said, my fabspeed Exhaust gets compliments on the sound all the time.

I raised the right side of my muffler and tightened up the clamp on that side. It was a little lopsided. The tips are even now. With the dual exhaust you have the added trouble of getting the tips even. Like I said earlier, I had to trim the new left side tail pipe where it clamps to the muffler to center the tip. I took another picture but it was dark out but it makes the car look evil... I like it.

Fabbing up some heat boxes for the headers. In la just need enough to take the chill off

I just like to do things once this is why I did this system. I spend up front then don't have to do the same job again. I'll try to post a sound clip.

Thanks for the replies guys. Really appreciate the opinion.

wallra: definitely interested in the sound clip! This is the FVD system I'm thinking.

Derek911: thanks for the info. I think I may simply stick with 1 outlet, rather than dual. Less might be more for me on this deal.

The ocham's razor solution of simply pulling the giant crap ball (secondary exhaust) and installing a simple secondary bypass sounds like a winner for minimal downtime. Might be a bit loud though.

Wow $5k for an exhaust!

I am in the same boat as you are but I am considering using the 993 headers. I say considering because it's still unclear to me if there are gains to be had or not by changing the stock 964 headers.

If I conclude there are not, then I will go with your current setup @Tmistry + a G pipe.
