Are they going to coat the magnesium in something/anything?

but my wife and kids give me a hard time when I do SMALL projects like fixing my HID lights, much less a BIG job that will take weeks or more and space in the garage.
Yes, it's a dilemma. Mechanical joy, versus domestic tranquility.
...after awhile, you won't miss them much anymore, so: I see no problem.

Good choice on keeping the car!
Wish I'd never traded out of my own 964. Dummy.

Pretty sure they are the Mg parts as the part numbers match.

They aren't going to coat them and haven't in the past. Not sure if corrosion or warp may become more of an issue but they don't think so. I'm going with their experience here and hope it's the right decision.

Has anyone out there vapour blasted the magnesium parts only to have problems down the road?

Was the coating for corrosion / heat?

Well, car is FINALLY supposed to be ready this Friday.
Is back from body shop (new windscreen and fixed the all to familiar rust spot below the drivers-side corner of the windscreen). Getting detailed and cleaned tomorrow and they are giving another once over of the mechanicals.
It's been a LONG time without her - heck even my winter tires are still on it!!
Still have to install the function first shift ****, and will eventually order the momo adapter for the Villesneuve wheel hanging in the garage!
I asked them to take pics along the way of the build - will post-them - assuming I stop driving her long enough to post!!

Nice! Let's see the pictures
Who's did the engine rebuild for you?

GTek did the engine rebuild.
Car runs amazingly well - the new clutch and LWF combo are terrific - at least today (not too hot mind you) there was no idle surge - the SW chip seems to be doing its job.
But it never ends, spoiler is stuck in up position now...

There was this little toy there that I thought they'd give me instead!!

Just had the same work done on my car. Thought about selling, but in the end, 964's are only going one way in value... Happy I had the work done (Becks European, Scottsdale). Car runs beautifully, plus a few other 'tweaks' done while she was in (RS ducts, clear front lenses, steel brake lines, new comp spring plates, etc). Now she's good for another 25 years :-)

Just a quick update on my recent rebuild.
Engine is amazing - break-in period done, going in for an oil change / exam soon.
I "fixed" the rear wing (was a loose wire - will probably need to replace the wire going to the motor for the wing soon) - for some reason when I fixed that, the other warning lights stopped coming on too - bonus!
I disconnected the hot air tubes and blocked the intakes to help keep A/C blowing cold in the car - works well - but still not great when temps really get up there.

While I am loving it, I'm getting more nervous about driving her. It hasn't sucked the joy out of ownership by any means, but has made me start to explore other fun and maybe more reliable (or cheaper to maintain) vehicles - I know nothing will feel the same as the 964 - and I'm nuts for even thinking that - maybe it's a bit of "buyers remorse" - before I was driving and enjoying a 964 I paid less than $23K Can for - now I've got a whole lot more invested into it I'm a little more neurotic.

I can understand the garage queen mentality a bit more now - but I still can't bring myself to keep it locked up in the garage for long periods of time. It's just too much fun - I don't get tired of the raw, connected feel. I don't even mind the LWF in stop and go traffic...

So why the hell do I mull over selling it every once in a while now???

I'm on the same boat that you're on. I don't enjoy driving it as much as I did in the past. Tried track days, afraid of breaking the engine or tansmission, so you drive conservatively. Wheres the fun in that? I drove my dad's '03 Boxster S and it feels very engaging...and modern. I'm not yet selling...but the time will come.

It's not that unusual to sell soon after a rebuild/respray. It could be for a number of reasons. I suspect sometimes it's that we have a buying/owning comfort zone that is breached by the state/cost of a rebuilt car e.g. Would you personally buy the car at the cost you have invested in it? Would you be comfortable using it as before in its rebuilt state? Many find out the answer is no to those questions. I sold a Turbo 3.6 I couldn't drive because it had become an expensive Classic, yet had once done a 4-up road trip in. No logic as it's the same car.

Good points! Mine is in the pre-rebuild stage. Sure it leaks on the garage floor and i wonder how much better he she would run after a rebuild. It is nice having a $30k toy in the garage that i don't have to justify to myself vs a $50k car that I would feel bad about really enjoying.

Just did a 1,000 mile road trip in one of my C4s. It has 150,000 miles on the odometer and no top end rebuild yet. The cars following said they saw two smoke puffs out of my exhaust on the whole trip. While I'd love to pull the engine and do it, it makes no sense. Drive and enjoy.
