Default MOLY vs MOLY meets Loctite :-|

I've searched and read the list of sealants type thread, great stuff. I am still bit confused as I prepare for miscellaneous reseal.

A chap that did the rebuild video and another chap back in 2007 with great rebuild thread on PP, used Moly 111 on O-ring, TC box rubber gaskets, valve cover gaskets and big cam O-rings... some of the recent lists are suggesting Moly 55 on O-rings... I have just received both products and very much different???

Now my questions;

A. What did you chaps use on TC box to cam big Oring ? As noted above, it seems Moly 111 is choice which I think conflicts with list shared from Supertec(suggesting Loctite 574?) noted in Ricardo's current rebuild thread? So, what is current best practice 111 vs 55?

B. When and what loctite for miscellaneous studs like TC box covers working out of box? If exhaust stud needs replacing?

C. When if ever is Curil T used anymore ?

Old topic I know, but kind of IMPORTANTE.... TIA....

I used Dow Corning 111 (silicone grease) on all o-rings. It was recommended by Jerry Woods. For the rest, I followed Wayne R. Dempsey's 911 engine rebuild book's advice. I have a little over 15K miles and so far, its dry.

Rob,

I have the gray/white tube Dow Corning Molykote 111, your packaging is different, but we are talking same thing, correct? Have you personally sampled Molykote 55? It says on tube, Oring grease, 111 has more of a silicone feel, do you agree? Thus far, 111 leading my survey... Did you put paper gasket on cam dry both sides?

I used Loctite Red on my cam chain housing studs. I was not 100% effective, when I removed my covers to re-time the cams. Some of the studs came out when I went to unwind the M6 nylok nuts. Once removed, I cleaned them, reapplied Loctite Red and reinstalled the studs.

As for the paper gaskets, I used Curil-T on both sides of the gaskets.

I have not seen to Molykot 55, so I can advise you on the difference to 111.

Matthew, I suspect we're trawling the same forums but just in case we're not I asked the same question on Pelican

We chose Dow 55 because of it's military application (testing and continued use). We buy it as military surplus because when we started using it, Dow 55 was not available in retail packaging.

From Dow's application documentation. I'm leaning towards using 55 (I have bought 111 as well so this is a choice based on product I have).

Btw how long before this goes the way of an oil thread?

There appears to be a glitch in the App or Rennlist where posts from some members in other time zones show as posted but not the actual post. Matthew, can you see this now?

I now have all the stuff, 55, 111', Curil T, 574 and of course the Sach's spline for input shaft/clutch lube ... 10 lifetimes of that tube .. No excuses, but to get "the Blob" on a stand And that Curil-T is different, just not sure where to make use of...
