Question Want one bad...found this one...now what?

Been a fan my whole life, never had one...found this one. Need to close the deal. Car is in hiding...not for sale but needs a new owner. Owners have 1 year old and momma really needs suv... not 911. '91 C2 manual, car fax clean, well maintained and documented...103k miles. Car driven less than 200 miles per year last 6 years. Car belongs to family friend. Agreed to have PPI at Perfect Power in Illinois. $30k a good number if PPI solid? Need everyone to go home happy and make this mine.
. New to the list. Thanks for your comments. rb

PPI can also present a risk of being gazumped, shops know the value of these things and if its a sweet car it may get talked about in a way that is unfavourable for you. If you can, be with the car throughout the PPI or maybe try to find a local rennlist expert to PPI it instead.

Good luck, you must be excited.

Worth $30k all day if the PPI comes back ok. That would give you PLENTY of room to spare if it needed some TLC. Good luck and keep us posted!

Thanks for the encouragement. I am certainly excited about finding this car and actually getting to take it home. You can bet I will be there for the PPI. When I was a kid, I would go to Perfect Power to hang out at the end of the workday and help my brother work on his 911 after hours. We were 16 and 17. Now, 30 years later we return as customers. I might worry about taking that car somewhere else for service, but not Perfect Power. In 30 years one thing has not changed...Sol and Beth run one of the finest shops in the land. You'd have a hard time trying to convince me to take it anywhere else, but I appreciate the advice in finding a reputable PPI.

Looks like a great car in the photo. Be sure to inspect it thoroughly, as these cars can be expensive to repair if neglected. Keep us posted.

Put a big deposit conditional only on PPI with the agreed price written down to prevent "gazumption". Sounds like a great deal.

At 30 it's a deal even if it needs a top end.
Owner clearly has no clue to market.
If ppi is clean 50k+ all day

Crossing my fingers for you. Sounds like the car I bought almost 10 years ago. It felt strange buying at car at 100,000, even if it looked new inside and out. Now I'm at 150,000+ and the car still feels great. Actually it feels better now with new suspension and other key mods. These cars love to be driven!

From what I'm seeing this is a great deal all day given no accident history and PPI checks out. Even with a few issues to address you should still come out on top.

If it was me I'd write the check without a PPI if you think there is a "risk" of losing the car.

No brainer. Buy it unless you there are rust bubbles all over it and the engine is leaking like a sieve. $30k is a steal! Be ready to put at least $2500 into it to sort out issues since it has been sitting for awhile. You'll probably drop more $$$ though unless you wrench. Fully sorted it's a mid $40k car all day. Maybe more... GL

The picture you've posted and the text of your post tell me you'll be a great owner of an increasingly hard to find C2 manual coupe 964.

Don't involve others and second guess anything. What will a mechanic glancing over a 100,000 mile car tell you that you, someone who knows the 911, can't assume? Were this a higher priced car with a full rebuild, sure, get the PPI to make sure everything was done right and it's worth the cost. At this price, i recommend you go through the car yourself over the next few months and in spring have the valves adjusted/ plugs and wires done.

I'd personally forego the PPI and buy it immediately.
