Stater Motor Bushing
Having a little trouble with the starter kicking out on starts. Have cleaned and replace once and it worked pretty well for over a year - BUT, now I figured it is time to replace.
I have read several post on replacing the starter and they have been pretty straight forward post talking about the difficulty in reaching the upper allen head bolt, wiring, disconnect battery etc. All pretty much the same take it out and put it back on. NO MENTION OF THE STARTER BUSHING REPLACEMENT.
I have obtain the starter and with it came a bushing that goes in as a support for the starter shaft tip. ( see pictures)
Since this does not seem to be addressed in the post I have read, is this totally ignored or is it a bushing of importance that others have overlooked as it is just to hard to replace.
How often do these fail?
Is there a way to check to see if the bushing needs to be replace or not.
Has someone replaced the bushing and what issues did they run into ??
Can it be done with the trans still in the car??
Just wondering now how best to attack the undertaking.

bushing
you should always change the bushing with th new starter. I just use a tap and thread the bushing to pull it out then get a bolt that fits in the bushing with a nut on it to drive the new bushing in.
