Default Camshaft upgrade help

Hi
I'm after more grunt and i'm looking towards a cam upgrade this winter.
I'm wondering if anyone has any experince with the 993ss or the dc-21 cams, or any other spec cam for that matter.
My engine is running VEMS ECU (map based), bigger injectors, cat bypass and cup pipe. Rest of the engine is stock.
Varioram intake will be coming on this winter.
This is as street only car.

Hi,

Camshaft changes will not add more low end torque to these cars since they already have a zero-overlap smog-type cam profile, however displacement changes is the path for that sort of thing.

If you need/want more bottom-end power, make the engine into a 3.8, 3.9 or 4.0 (depending on budget) and that will make you very happy.

Wait, wait until you install Varioram. You will gain a lot of bottom end torque and will re-evaluate your "cam" idea. Variorum changes the whole torque curve on the bottom end. You "will" feel the difference.

My logic was that when I put on varioram i would get more torque low down, and if I change cams I would loose some bottom torque but would end up with the same and with the bonus of more hp on top?
Or maybe it doesn't work that way

That sounds logical to me. The confusion is that you asked for more grunt, which to me would imply you looking for low down power. I have cup cams in my car and im sure the loss of some bottom end would be a problem if I hadn't removed so much weight!
