Default RADAR DETECTOR LOCATION ?

Please post where you located your radar detector on the windshield.
Just picked up an escort max 360 and hard wire kit and trying to figure out the best spot for it. Pics appreciated.

Have a few different detectors spread across the cars. Certainly, the ones with laser detection require a 'line of sight' ideally. However, in truth, by the time it's detected a laser directed at the car, it's all over anyway - pull over and fine. I mount this unit right of centre on top of the intrument binnacle and pointed slightly centre - RHD car.

K, X and Ka-Band radar I'm less fussed about mounting position (so long as it's forward looking) as the axis detection angle is pretty widespread (sometimes annoyingly). GPS camera detection is any location in the car pretty much (same as your mobile phone GPS).

sorry, no pix but I've a plug in Escort as well as a hard wired full monte system. I place the plug in one right in the center of the front window about 3-4 inches above the dash. I had also placed it right in the middle but just below the rear view mirror- in the end, i took it down from there for a few reasons.
1. the cord was just a pain in the rear all the way up there
2. i was nervous every time a cop drove by ( though legal in my state)
3. didn't make a difference in radar detection ( vs just above the dash ).
Of note, I've driven w/ the plug in escort on in the car w/ the hard wired version and their ability to detect was really very similar and simultaneous. As LM964 noted , if you are picking up a Laser it is already too late. The hard wired version has laser scramblers which fouls their readings- again, not legal everywhere.

I have a escort 9500 hard wired and mounted on the drivers side lower left corner (when looking out) on my Cayenne GTS. Works very good and has saved me from many tickets. I bought the escort max 360 for the 964 and was thinking about hard wiring it below the rear view mirror with a Bend Mount. Would need to pull the window glass to run the hard wire. Turns out Bend mount does not make a mount that works with our mirrors. Thinking about mounting it similar to where it is my Cayenne. Can skip calling the guy to pull the glass too.

I mount my V1 above the mirror on passenger side so it's not right in my face - it just blends in

Did you use the suction cup or mirror mount?

Well mounting on the drivers side lower left side is not going to work. This new escort max 360 is too big. It hangs out over the dash. Not a lot of depth on the lower dash . Not sure where I will put this...ugahhhh

Ditto.

I also hard wired it tapping into the radio power and the power cord running up the passenger column and across the top tucked into the windshield liner. I use the suction cup mount and remove it when I'm in public parking.

I wish I had a pic I could show you, but my car is in the shop getting the engine rebuilt at the moment.

I have my Max hardwired and mounted right underneath the rear view mirror with a Blendmount, which attaches to the mirror and is made for the Max.

Ideal location, looks perfect and, of course, no wires

Which bendmount did you get? Went to their site and when you put in the 964 it says they don't have a mount for it.

Built in if you can afford it!

It's hard not to go 20 to 30 over in these cars because of how sweet they ride.

Was going to hardwire escort max on right above mirror but got it stolen before I could get to it.

Pissed so I splurged with built in rl360 with new optical jammers and it saved my bacon last night on I80.
Jammed a state trooper's laser ... he didn't even leave his hidden spot on the side of the road.
Turn signal indicators flash blue (left for front, right for rear) when zapped.

Nice to be able to leave windows and top open when running quick errands (in nice areas) and not have to remove.

Limits it to one car only but having it swapped to another car is not expensive when (or if I ever) decide to sell car.

All time favorite sports car.

As far as car to car quick trips I have a solo2 ... waiting for upgraded solo 4 (unannounced afaik) that has k band junk fighter then I will upgrade.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have a 993, but I'm pretty sure the rear view mirrors are the same on 964, or at least very close enough for the Blendmount to work?

Issue with the built in with no place to locate the sensors on the front of a 964. If it had a grille then no problem. I have one for my 69 bmw 2002 hot rod.

Which model bend mount did you get. Mirrors should be the same.
