Default Front oil cooler- time to replace

My front oil cooler is weeping, so out it goes and a new one, resister, etc goes in.

Seems a fairly straight forward job. Any thoughts/tips prior to starting would be appreciated.

When putting the lines on the new unit, how tight? I won't have a way to torque and don't want to under/over do it.

Replace the foam sealing wedge(s) while you're in there?

I ordered foam from Sunset and the pieces were NOS. They had already deteriorated significantly. I'm making my own from foam from McMaster-Carr. Far more durable.

How about the flexible oil lines to the cooler? You mentioned the ballast resistor already.

As for torque on the fittings, I did mine "wrench tight". Its no different than the fittings on the thermostat. Otherwise, its a straight forward process. Replacing the foam is a good idea.

A crowsfoot at a 90 degree angle to the torque wrench head will give you the correct amount of torque. THIS calculator comes in handy sometimes too!

Goughary, were you able to replace the Oil cooler without any troubles?
I have mine removed , the new one installed to the Fan, but still waiting for the Resistor to arrive.
When installing the new Cooler, did you pre-fill it with oil after installation and before you've started the car? Also, how did you tight the Oil hose fittings - wrench tight?!

Yes, you need to fill the cooler with fresh oil before you install it. Also, make sure you replace the crush washers that fit in between the lines and the cooler (2). If not...you will have a slow oil leak over time.

Thank you on the pre-filling advise!
I do not have crush washers in-between the Hose fittings and the Nipples installed on the inlet and outlet of the Cooler.
The only crush washers I found were in-between the Nipples and the Oil cooler body. Do you have those in mind?

I did not bother prefilling when I did my cooler and hoses. I had no problems. +1 on the 90 degree crows foot for proper torqueage.
