964 MY differences
Hello all
I've recently sold my 996tt. So I'm looking to get a 964. Don't ask why, it's an itch and I have to scratch it.
964 started in 89 and end in 94. The ideal car would be 94 turbo, but that won't happen. 1, too expensive. 2, I like to drive mine too much. So probably just an Carrera 2 or 4.
Just wondering if are there any major differences between the model years? And is certain year more desirable than other?
Thank you in advance. I'm eager to learn on this new flat form

Porsche 911 Enthusiast's Companion: Carrera 2, Carrera 4, and Turbo 1989-1994
The book is comprehensive and clear from a content perspective, totally worth the price (even if not cheap).
Another important thing is that the binding (paperback) looks well done and, even if I am reading the book a lot, is still firm despite it has more than 600 pages.
If you are in Europe (cannot see it from the iPhone), I bought it here. Satisfied with the packaging and the shipping. No link with the merchant.

If you have an MY91, it might have an aluminum or plastic intake plenum and it may have a circular or triangle engine compartment latch.
One of the times we got some of the DFW 964 owner's together, we had three MY91 cars lined up and one was metal intake with round latch, the other plastic intake with round latch, and the other plastic intake with triangle latch.

I bought the book on recommandation alone. To each his own.
Looks like the thread opener is buying his copy too, so everybody wins.

R134 started in 93. There are a lot of changes Adrian does not address. In fact I have found subtle changes throughout the MY's.
I don't believe Adrian addresses these. Just going off the top of my head if you know differently please revise. I have a bunch of notes I need to sort through that lists far more changes I have found while working on different MY 964's.
1991 went to the newer style double spring wiper arms.
Tubs modified in 1991 to accommodate the larger clips used on the turbo rocker panels. The little indents were made larger on the welded panel but remained the same on the quarter panels and front fenders.
I believe it was 1992 they switched from magnesium valve covers to aluminum
I believe it was 1991 they switched to the frunk light being wired through the hood latch vs a pin switch at the same time they changed the rear latch from the older style round unit to the latch style. At this time they added the additional hood and deck lid release cable since the older style latch would pop open if the cable broke.
maybe someone can help with the year 1991 or 92 changed door striker plates to the larger style and went from the single tang on the inner locking mechanism to a double tang allowing for the locking and unlocking of the doors with a key vs prior design which only allowed unlocking of the door with the key without power. In late 1994 they switched to the black striker plates as used on the 993.
late 1994 switched to newer 993 style glove box with latch in the center vs latch in the same location as the key and ****.
1994 began using newer 993 style jack vs earlier scissor jack.
1991(?) began using the larger spare tire same as the turbo.
Late model 94 cars came with the 993 door seals without the ribs and IIRC the toolkit changed slightly along with the air pump which added a safety light.
1994 first year for no crinkle paint under front hood.
1991-2 switched from rear seats using red **** to release to the older carrera style with push button on top.
Late model 94's started using the 993 style crest with black PORSCHE lettering vs gold.
Does anyone remember what year they revised the shift box to the oval vs round bushings? Also was it 91 or 92 that they switched over to the newer style vin tag with bar coding. All 1989 and 1994 MY US spec cars had vin tags o n all pertinent body parts.
There are so many I can't recall them without looking over my notes but these are just an example.
