Default Momo gilles villeneuve steering wheel - should I install it?

I've had a nice old Momo Villeneuve steering wheel from my father in-laws previous 80's era Audi. (still has Audi rings on horn button).
Been thinking about installing it on my '90 Air Bag equipped 964.
When I had the car in last year, they ran some diagnostics and said that there was an Airbag error and they aren't sure it works? If I can confirm it doesn't work, I'm doing the switch. If it does work, thoughts on removing an (old) air bag from a street car? Anyone know if the validity of diagnostics determining if the airbag is functional?? I though it was a mechanical sensor, so would a scan pick up a failure / fault?
My airbag light is not on, but does come on when starting up the car - so I know the bulb hasn't been pulled.

Thanks for the push (one way or the other!)...

I think that your airbag's best before date was 2005. I took mine out a couple of years ago, no fear of it randomly detonating. You should of course consult a lawyer and you insurance company first!
