90 964 Targa 5-speed or 98 993 Cab Tip?
Hi. I was able to come to a very close price point and both vehicles have a little over 100K miles. Which one would you pick? And why? I have to decide soon. Thanks in advance.

Both are good drivers; which passes a PPI better?
I'm partial to the 964 Targa myself.

Thanks Chris. Since this is 964 forum, I figure there might possibly be some bias toward 964 :-). I'd never had a tip but I'm not getting any younger either. Not exactly sure how I would feel owning a tip for the long run.

Matt, I'm inclined to pick by tranny as well. So it's likely ending up with the Targa, subject to PPI report of course. Only reason I'm checking out that Tip is its 8 years newer technology and the last air-cooled model so far.

The transmission would be the deciding factor for me as well. I need that third pedal. I have a 90 Targa C2 Manual and love it. Look over the targa seals and top. Everything related to the targa is very spendy.

love my tip
My car MY91 is a tip and I love it. The challenge of learning how it works and how to make if do what it is designed to do is far more interesting than pushing a clutch. Now I may be predjice because she is the only Porsche I have ever drove or ever will. I suspect most tip haters have never drove one or if they have haven't drove one long enough to really learn what they are capable of doing. My two cents like it or not

Go with the 964.
I've had a 993 and a 964, although it's been 15 and 20 years, respectively.
I miss the 964. I don't particularly miss the 993.
YMMV. Good luck, either way!

Danno, thanks for your input and tips on targa seals and top. The targa I am having my eyes on likely needs complete AC re-work. Top-end was redone and was told compressions are between 185-190 on all 6. The AC blows air but no cold air, compressor did not engage and possibly still on R12 set up. While the tip cabriolet has a great working AC.

The head light, roof top and front fenders areas of 964 resembles closely to the 911 icon SC and Carrera I grew up with while the 993 was transforming into the then new 996s.
