Transverse lock
 

Do any other C4 owners have this little hole in their transverse locks?

Mine appears to dribble a small amount of brake fluid from this hole.

Definitely do not have a hole. That can likely be welded, but I would replace it.

How did it get there? Was it drilled?

Would like to see pic of insides if you get a chance :)

It looks like an intentionally drilled hole. I had always thought that there was a bit of an oil leak, but it turned out to be brake fluid. I wonder if the lack of fluid pressure the the transverse lock could have caused the planetary gear in the nose of my last trans to fail. I am going to try a little spot weld on it just to see if it will hold and then bleed the system. If the weld fails, I will replace the whole unit.

It is an intentionally drilled hole - by the factory ;) All locks have it and it's to keep any leaking fluid from building up. The longitudinal lock has one too. You just need to rebuild the lock with the 9m seals.

That's funny. Mine must be just clogged with identical color grit...lol

Might be :) I was a little concerned when I saw it on mine. Makes sense to have fluid dribble out the hole instead building up between the lock and the rubber bellows seal of the trans. Brake fluid probably not so good for the diff and gears.

Thank you so much Nick. I have a set of the 9m seals sitting around. Do you suppose air has been introduced to the system as a result of the leak?

Thoughtful engineering, like it .... There's that word again, "planetary gear", doh !!! Not so thoughtful engineering :(

If so inclined, would like to hear more about your planetary gear issue, symptoms, what they found when opened gearbox, cure...
