Default New toy arrives tomorrow and it's not a porsche!

In a moment of madness and under the delusion that my reliable 964 has given me that all old cars are fine I've bought a alfa romeo that is being shipped from south africa to the UK. A friend of a friend checked the car over and confirmed all the info that the seller had given was correct. This was a few months ago now and the girlfriend banned me from going on about it a couple of months ago. I just had to tell someone about it or I'll go nuts! I'm already smitten and I haven't even sat in one yet. No intention of getting rid of the 964 just felt like treating myself! just seen them racing at various classic races over the last couple of years and promised myself one if I got the chance. The car is a 1972 gt junior 1300 with 2ltr gtv engine and brakes and alfaholics suspension and cams. Should be around 140bhp but only around 900kg so should be a lot of fun! Anyway, enough rambling. On to pictures!

I've always loved the GTV......early Alfa's have a "very connected" driver feel, much like air-cooled Porsches. I used to own a 1971 1750 Spider.

Gutted! Did you have enough time with it to get an idea how they drive?

Default Fun cars !

Had my '67 Stepnose almost 40 years and still love it !

Blasting up a winding mountain road is a blast. Join the local Alfa Club. They are a fun bunch!

And it will leak a little oil just like your 964 !

All of my Alfas......

Love the blue of your step nose alfa. Tomorrow can't come quick enough, feel like a kid at Christmas! 40 years is a long time to own any car, that was nearly new!

It was back in the seventies, I think the car was just under a year old, I was about five, we we're all in the car, Dad, Mum, sister and me, there was only half a car left after the accident, it was horrific and Police and Ambulance guy's couldn't believe how we all got out alive? I know in the short time he had it he loved it, he did think about getting another but after the six months in rehabilitation Mum talked him out of it

You can't really blame her for not wanting to get back in one after that, now that I've had a good look over the car I don't think they built these with safety in mind. I think they were more concerned with keeping the weight down. The boot lid is so thin and flexible that I got excited thinking someone had fitted me an alloy one but it's just that it's such thin guage steel!

Well the car arrived safe and sound, no damage in transit. So far it seems that the car was exactly as described, the motor, gearbox and brake have obviously been rebuilt. All the alfaholics suspension looks a couple of hundred miles old. Lots of tatty interior bits to sort, gonna need to do the headlining which I'm not looking forward to after doing one in the 964. I managed to borrow some trade plates from a friend so I could go for a quick blast. Obviously it needs setting up properly but ran surprisingly well once warmed up. The speedo and rev counter are all over the place so very hard to guage how well the car goes but the engine certainly likes to rev and it sounds awesome! Most importantly the car isn't a rot box, it was supposedly bare metalled ten years ago and so far have no reason to doubt it, I'll get the magnet out later....
Enough waffling, pictures! Hopefully the car in the background justifies me posting this in a porsche forum!
