Default engine weight

does anyone know the weight of a fully dressed up 964 3.6 aircooled motor?

i think the car is too heavy in the rear for the little power it has. I have been driving my car pretty hard and i feel like the rear is too heavy. Its about time i rebuild the motor so Im thinking of putting in some light weight parts into the motor. pistons rods ect. It would be nice to shed some weight off the motor.

or....

i might put another motor in it. I need more power. less weight .

Im thinking 360whp is reasonable with a sick rebuild of the original motor. It would be nice to shed about 40 pounds of weight from the stock engine.

Ditch the heater and AC equipment, ITBs weigh less than the stock installed system. Lightweight headers and exhaust. toss the stock decklid for a carbon fiber part. Swap the Rear glass For Lexan (even more weight of you have a rear wiper)
Bet you could knock 100lbs+ off the overall weight back there

The stock exhaust probably weighs close to 100 lbs.

You won't get anywhere on engine internals...and it will cost you a fortune. I don't think most people realize but off-the-shelf Carrillo/Pauter rods weigh more than the stock ones. You could always get some gen 3 steel ones like Magnus but they will set you back $6k and save you a few grams.

If you want to lose weight, it's like Jjm4life is saying: lose the A/C and heat, power steering, exhaust, retractable spoiler, drill holes in the aluminum bumper, rear window, etc.

I recently removed my back seats and all that foam and no joke all that insulation weighs a tons.

Good luck....keep us informed

^Ditto.

You can also remove a good chunk with a lightweight battery, bucket seats and wheels...although you're not removing it all from the back, still easily worth it.

Rear weight bias is what makes your car a Porsche
so make sure you don't change the driving characteristics too much.
I would consult an expert before doing anything as you might
not get the results you're looking for.

I'd want to talk to an experienced mechanic first or
someone involved in race prep.

Any weight shed from the rear is a benefit. No doubt about that. But no one is going to notice +-100lbs on the street.

Stepping back for a moment-

I have a feeling you're not aware that a 360rwhp air-cooled motor is going to be well north of $40k.

The stock exhaust, everything after the heads, is just under 100lbs. I don't think that you can have much more than headers and a tailpipe if you're thinking of shedding 70lbs from it.

This!^^^^
One thing i will add is that a well set up, lowered and stiffened car hides the weight very well and feels much less rear biased.

as previously mentioned the car is too rear heavy for the little amount of POWER it has. For myself I am the only determiner of what my car needs for it to do what I want it to do. And for what I want it to do it is too heavy in the rear and doesn't have enough power to compensate for the rear weight.

that sucks, so just tune and exhaust for me.

if you know what you are doing you will notice anything that is substantial such as 100 pounds. and my car will be used for something very specific. I dont want to really mention for what. everyone here will kill me.
