Why does my car smell gassy
This maybe a stupid question because I know these cars tend to have oil and gas smells but my car smells fine with the windows up and running the Ac. But when I drive with the Windows down its really gassy and exhausty. I never really noticed until my wife sat in the car. She said it was intolerable. But I checked the frunk and the rear and I couldn't really detect a noticeable gas leak. But when driving you can definitely smell the gas. Is this common? I am assuming yes

It's not common to smell fuel when driving, although it's fairly common to smell it in the trunk area.
As you smell it only when driving, I wonder if the rubber washer on the fuel filler cap needs replacing? Do you notice it more after some sprited driving with a full tank and some of sharp turns? (ie, fuel could be leaking out of the cap itself).
The common smell in the trunk area is often caused by the fuel filler neck itself. It's a part that has been updated numerous times by Porsche to try and eliminate this so if the washer is ok then this would be the next thing I'd look at.

Does it do it when it's parked in a small enclosed space after running? if so you could have a bad fuel line front passenger side of the motor where it supplies from the pump, mine was cracked and since figuring out that was the source of the smell 3 other cars at the shop I used were also found to have this issue.

No change in smell
The Porsche dealership that serviced this vehicle stated that both fuel pumps had been replaced.

I recently had a gas smell too. I checked the access panel under the fuel pump and noticed it was wet with fuel. It was a loose nut on the fuel pump outlet.

Sorry for the sideways pictures but no matter how I rotate it they come up this way.
IIRC the 993 version is now used.

I have a Fabspeed cat bypass on my 964.. and same thing as the OP.. very gassy and exhausty smell when driving.. I changed back to the stock cat, and all smells gone (but too quiet).. so I went back to the stinky cat bypass.

Keep the cat, but use a primary muffler bypass pipe. Great sound and no stink.
