Champs-Elysees and 964s
I guess I won't be driving a 964 down the Champs-Elysees. I'm sure this trend is only going to spread to other cities in the future...

Is there still time for one more W9O meeting on the Champs-Elysees?!
Environment Minister Ségolène Royal has agreed to a plan that will classify all cars into six categories, based on their pollution levels. Vehicles will be identified by colored stickers placed on their windshields, making it easier for cities to implement traffic restrictions when smog levels spike.

It's kinda ridiculous. Like, old classic cars are honestly causing that much pollution to justify banning them. If they really where trying to curb emissions, they should restrict all driving and force people to use public transportation or bikes.

"The ban also applies to scooters and motorcycles built before June 1, 1999, and it's going to get much more stringent in the coming years. In 2020, only cars manufactured after 2010 will be allowed to enter Paris city limits."
They can't be serious.

One Airbus A380 landing at CDG creates more pollution than a fleet of 964s circling the Arc de Triomphe for a f'ing year. Stupid law and if you want to know the real genesis of it, it's undoubtedly economic, not environmental. Renault needs to sell more stuff and city government needs more revenue from fines and permits.

The claim in the article I read stated that the 10% of cars that fall into the category of restriction are accounting for 50% of the total vehicle emissions in the city. If true, they have a pretty good case for the new regulation. I didn't see any info on how that was calculated though.

I've always been surprised at the number of 964s I've seen in Paris. I've spent a lot of summers in the 5th arrondissment and would always see at least one a week.
Of course I didn't and wouldn't want a car in the center of town anyway, but it was always fun to see them since I missed mine so much.
Parking! I would always cringe at the parking jobs I saw...
