i have never needed more light than my h-4's (on relays).
need more light? put in a higher wattage bulb. that is all.
the look of the Bosch lens cannot be improved upon, imho.

Hi Creaturecat,

You can have the best of both worlds, I too didn't want to change from the period Bosch lenses but the lighting was diabolical. Not any longer.

See below (So It Begins - p38) on my thread for photos & contact details 4800 lumens (per side) for less than £100 plus shipping. It's a straight plug and play, no messing, additional wiring or fitment issues, and fantastic quality.

No affiliation with either the products or the distributor woodypeck@outlook.com

Dr. Mitch--the DZug HID kit has an H1 HID bulb from Opt7. You can buy a replacement HID kit on Amazon for about $100 USD or individual HID bulbs for less than $20. Opt7 also make LED H1 kits, though i don't know if they fit. I will probably try next bulb replacement.

No affiliation with DZug or Opt7, just passing what little I know since DZug seems to be DEad.

Thanks Greg great info! Yes, just realized the Dzugs have H1 bulbs.
Curious if the LED will fit. Hoping to find a local shop to do a test fit.
Otherwise, will likely just replace the faulty side.

So what are the options for those of us who are saddled with H5's?

Sorry meant to post photos of dipped and full beam HID from flat6illumination. Of course I realise people also need to see the cut off pattern against a plain wall, so I'll post those up too when I can . These units passed the UK annual MOT inspection , can't speak for other countries. Units needed a bit of fiddling to mount, but François is nothing if not extremely helpful .

To those of you who have gone the Flat 6 route - may I ask a few questions.
I installed Flat 6 lights on 91 964 and it really was a matter of unplugging the old connector from the old bulb, using the included adapter and then plugging into existing wiring. My questions: on the Flat 6 (I got the LEDs) there is also a set of very thin wires- blue and white. I do not know what they are for and I don't have them connected at the moment.

Can anyone tell me? Not sure if it is related to these wires or not but I can engage the high beams but I cannot turn them off? Only way to turn them off is to literally turn the lights to "off" position and then turn on again. Doesn't sound right. I am awaiting response from Francois who has been just great to work with thus far. Oh yeah, battery died and on the tender now. I have to assume it is related. Thank you all.

No worries - I was told I need a different set of connecting cables and he's already sent them to me. I will update once they're in. Crossing fingers !

Finally getting around to posting pictures. I went with the black reflectors and the fluted lens. Another tip of the cap to Francois at Flat6.

Following up on a previous question...

For those of us with US spec H5 headlights, what the best BULB upgrade if we don't want to go with completely new headlights/lenses? Are there plug-n-play LED bulbs that are brighter that our old halogen bulbs? Or brighter halogen bulbs that work without needing relays?

TIA.

Don't count on Steve from Woodypeck chiming in.
I contacted his a year ago about the kit he used to sell.
I'm still waiting for an answer

No guarantees, but you can try these:
Amazon Amazon
I got the H4 version. Cost me $40, no relays, plenty bright, lower energy consumption.
