Default Valvoline 20w50 VR1

Does anyone know if this has been barred from California or just plain discontinued? My guy at AutoZone said they stopped selling it a month ago due to detergents or something and the environment. So naturally I go online and order through amazon and they won't deliver to my address, but all I get is a list of reasons why. I believe the hazard one is related. What gives?

It's a high ZDDP oil so you need to mail order it unless you can get a local FLAPS to order it for you.

Call Valvoline? They might tell you the recall in California and the refusal by USA based retailers to sell into the state has nothing to do with ZDDP and everything to do with the label on the bottle missing a classification which is now required under California law. And if you're curious to know the Zinc and Phosphorous levels that were in the Shell TMO 10w30 and 5w40 that the 964 was designed and delivered from the factory with, you might be able to find out HERE.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. I went ahead and ordered BradPenn service kit through ECSTuning instead. I was hoping to save some $$ with VR1 20w50, but maybe next time.

VR1 was on sale for $4 at autozone a while back. People on Pelican were cleaning out their local stores. Can't beat it for the price.

Yes. Do it. Or run Brad Penn semi synthetic.
