If you are getting poor fm signal you may need a new antena booster. It's under the dash.
If that's gone then no radio will pick up good signal.
I think Porsche sells the cables needed to use the existing factory amp under the seat with their new classic radio.

FM reception also depends on the antenna ... which in the case of the 964 was amplified ("boosted")and basically blew chunks.

Is it simple to get to and replace. I'm reading something here about removing the top of the dash????

You're much better off with your aftermarket amp. The Source may have a specific watt rating but is nowhere near as consistent or strong as the power you get from a dedicated amp. static on a Fm frequency would have to do with the source/antenna combo, and not your amp.

Got it. Will have my guy check the antenna booster and go from there.

I wanted to bump this back up, for those that have been using this headunit for a while, how good is the GPS if you install the GPS receiver under the dash? I saw a video PCA put together showing the receiver on the dash but I really don't want to run wires up and I don't want to see it.
