Help! I love the chip BUT...
1990 C4 originally with a stock cat, Fabspeed primary muffler bypass, and some secondary sport aftermarket muffler. Unsure of the brand. Anyway, car sounded awesome especially at startup and idle! Got lots of compliments. I went to swap out the stock rattling cat with a Fabspeed sport cat. Slightly better sound! Idle sound was more aggressive too. Then I went to install a Steve Wong chip. I bought our beloved member Spyerx's old chip as he was upgrading to a headers chip. It's the version for the primary muffler bypass and cat bypass/sport cat. Now the car is actually quieter. I'm not liking it. It has more noticeable pickup but the sound at startup and idle isn't as impressive as it used to be. Anyone know why? Could an alteration in the fuel/timing map actually change the exhaust note making it quieter especially at idle?!

Now that is weird. You sure its not your head? i have a DB meter :-)
It might be running a little richer, that could be it?

FWIW, the chip I sold was one for cat bypass, I bought one for headers, but might have a custom chip made at some point since Steve is local to us.
I have his chips in my 964 and my 89 G body. They do make a noticeable (positive) difference. Drivability is good, as OEM, more lively.
The noise thing is weird, I have swapped between the different versions and stock and my cars have sounded the same.

1. Many (many) have said that their idle was improved by the installation of the SW chip. Could it be that it's smoother and consequently doesn't sound as high-performance? I know one of the things I like about this car is it's somewhat lumpy idle. Makes people say, "Is that stock?!"
2. Steve has legendary customer service. Even with for a used chip I bet $10 he'd be happy to discuss this with you via email. Rather than ask a bunch of people who've never heard your before/after, go right to the horse's mouth.
