Another classical car.. Options?

Not sure what they are worth over there, but have loved the torque of the v12, having owned 4 four door v12s and then this, i know why captions of industry and heads of state have them.
Lucky for me they fall in price quickly and now i believe the sl600 is just on the turn and will be a good investment.
However be warned i replaced ALL the soft top hydraulic cylinders for the soft top and there is a lot of heat in there effecting the wiring loom.

I was always a fan of the Alfa GTV they are such an under appreciated car.
I am not sure how you could get an M5 to look like a CSL but if you could that would be interesting. I should have picked up one back in 1985 when I had a chance. The M6 is a great car as well. The bigger 850 CSi is also a nice ride but now you are getting into some bigger cars.
If you want a really unique and interesting ride you missed a very nice Citroen SM with the Maserati engine on BAT the other day. We used to tool around in my friends fathers SM back in HS. It was unlike anything else I have driven and is so unique. A fun car on so many levels and I think they will see an increase in value soon. He had the ROW version with the articulating headlights and more power. Was a great sounding engine and unique suspension but very complicated car. Project cars can be found cheap.

I hate to say anything negative but my father had a 75 450SL for 35 years until he passed. They are nice Boulevard cruisers with the top down but they drive like german steel because they are built like a truck and not a car. If you are going to do vintage MB try to find an older 290 SL if you can still pick one up for a reasonable price.

The R107 as mentioned...
Jaguar XJ-S
Reliable+fun:
Supra
300ZX
Fast:
635 CSI

i didn't mention the 500E in my post, as i was more focused on smaller cars. i love my 500E and i still think they are undervalued for what they offer and what they were in their day. i've seen article after article mentioning that the 500 is an undervalued/great buy of a [somewhat] limited production vehicle. the partnership with porsche on engineering/assembly is just the cherry on top!
they're not all that fast by today's standards - although a 1st gear launch will certainly get your attention - but the build quality is absolutely amazing. this was a no-limits build for merc in the early '90s.

I recently decided to relieve my 964 for daily driver duties in search of something classic, reliable and relatively easy to work on with parts readily available.
My top criteria were:
1) MY '75 or older (CA smog exempt)
2) 4 cylinder
3) $5-$10k budget
After much thought, I narrowed it down to 3 cars I really liked.
BMW 2002, Datsun 510 and Porsche 914. The 914 being the only one I've yet to own prior.
I finally ended up with this and I couldn't be happier!
It's not perfect, but it's a great driver.
It really complements the 64 in it's tossability and classic shape.
Best of luck in your search!
