930 tail lights vs 964

I can't seem to find a clear answer, but does anyone know if 930 tail lights will fit in our cars? I'm going for that singer look with the chrome trim on the lights but don't know how much work is needed to make them fit.

Rohsport sells the housing and ECS sells the lens.

Most searches result in 930 owners installing 964 lights.

Thanks!

No, they will not fit.

Any idea how they can be made to fit?

you need to cut the back out of the light recess in the wing to make the early lights fit. The early lights come with their own housing which is too big to fit inside the recess. Also the wiring is not the same so that will need dealing with too. There will be similar hacking up jobs to fit the 930 rear reflector into a 964.

Not a job to be taken lightly.

The angle of the light housing, off of the bumper, is not the same. 964 taillights have an angle, the torsion bar cars have flatter lights...

Hope you can see that in these pics.

Singer uses the 930 lights and the flatness of them doesn't seem odd at all.

I wonder if the rear panels are 930 panels or just custom for the tail lights.

They are custom carbon fibre panels...
Everything about Singer is designed and then designed again. No doubt the rear guards have been designed to accomodate the chosen lights.

i had never noticed the Singer taillights.
what an ugly addition. they do not fit the profile of the car. not even close. why bother?

I believe its a personal preference. I think they look perfect. What I really like is the amount of amber along with the chrome outer trim. It almost makes the car look a bit more stout.

I might fab up my own pair using the lenses from ECStuning and making a housing like Jack Olsen did for his car.

True, but the whole rear bumper has a much shorter profile. So it works as a nice tight package.

The 964 rear bumper redesign has a much larger profile and volume. I'm sure part of the reason they angled the 964 lights is to visually reduce (or better integrate) the new rear bumper design. Installing the older lights, given their more vertical angle, will probably add 1/2 inch or more to the rear bumper profile. I don't think the 964 needs any more rear bumper...

That said, I like the ingenuity. Go for it!
(Thanks for the Pelican link, Jack is awesome!)

I'm always playing around with random ideas too....

prediction: people will regret hacking up their 964, at some point in the future.

Totally. I've seen a couple 964s in print advertisements from auction houses, what struck me was that they were showing pristine cars with Flags and D90s. No one advertised those cars years ago. Interesting. Flags and D90s are back in style....

Sorry I forgot to include more information. I'm back dating the car to a certain point.

I agree with the 930 lights looking odd with a 964 bumper, but I'll be using a similar body as Singer (custom work). I don't plan on selling the car in my lifetime so resale value is out the window and its a salvage title anyways.

I'll keep you guys updated on the tail lights and body work when I put together a build thread. I currently have many parts waiting to be installed. Front bumper, front fenders, side skirts, etc. Just need to figure out what I'll use in the mean time as this is my DD.
