Nice, I went with Wevo myself.

Replacing the engine mounts was one of the easiest projects I've ever done on my 964.

The factory OE engine mounts for the 993 C2 and C4 are both hydraulic, just like the engine mounts used in the 964. The difference between the C2 and C4 mounts was the body. The C2 version is steel and the C4 aluminum. Corteco (aftermarket division of Freudenberg that makes the OE) sells rubber and hydraulic versions of each mount to meet a price point. Pelican started advertising the rubber version incorrectly as THE c4 mount and people started using them because (as you say) they are substantially cheaper. Functionality wise they are about the same as the RS mount but weigh slightly more and cost slightly less. It's funny how all the little parts that together, made the 964 better than the previous model slowly get tossed aside for the slightly cheaper versions from the earlier 911.

They’re not functionally the same - that’s the point, that’s why the 965 part exists. If you care about a quiet vibration free idle fit the parts Porsche specified. Yes the 993 C4 part is fluid filled but it’s not as quiet as the 965 part at idle.

This is really frustrating. Unless you know this stuff please don’t post and mislead. People will read these posts out of context and get the wrong idea. Yes the 993 part will fit but it’s not as good as the 965 which is why it exists. Back then Porsche did things for a reason other than cost.

Maybe I wasn't clear enough about the parts that I wrote are functionally the same? The rubber filled aftermarket Corteco C4 engine mount is functionally the same as the rubber dampened OE RS part. The physical difference being the open vs. closed body as well as the durometer and volume of the elastomer. The difference between the 964 C2 and the 964 C4 engine mount was the construction of the body. The C2 was steel (with yellow zinc dichromate finish) and the C4 aluminum. There was a further model differentiation for the 964 Targa and Cab using the same (greater dampening via the number and size of the holes separating the upper and lower fluid-filled chambers inside the) mount (see below) as the 964T and the 993C2.

My new ones (993-375-049-09) are in the garage waiting to be installed. The RS mounts in my cab aren't bad at all but I am looking for a little less noise and vibration.

Are you guys saying the 993 mounts I purchased are going to be more like the RS mounts as opposed to the original mounts?

No, the elastomer filled Corteco aftermarket OEM mounts that are sold as C4 mounts are more like RS mounts. The hydraulic mounts with the 993 part number; 993-375-049-05 originally from the 993C4... which was then superceded in 2001 to 993-375-049-07 for the 996TT and then finally 993-375-049-09 for the 996GT2/TTS in MY04) are not like the RS mounts.

When I get back to the USA this summer I will try to remember to order each of the two styles of aftermarket Corteco mounts and then cut them open. One should (according to the docs I have from Porsche) look exactly like the C2 mount that I disassembled except for the body material and valving. Hopefully, someone will have an old genuine OE 993 C4 mount that we can further compare against.

I’m going to be replacing my motor mounts later this year (90 C2) and I wanted to determine the consensus on best OE/OEM option for the 964.

Based upon the posts above it seems the RS mounts might be the best option for improved handling while maintaining a reasonable NVH. If however the NVH will change dramatically it sounds like the 993 C2 mounts are the way to go?

I would appreciate any feedback on this.

I have RS mounts in my C2 and 964 original style mounts in my C4. The RS mounts are slightly stiffer but not that noticeably. The original style are easier to install. You don't have to fiddle with the washers but this is a nit. How often do you drop the engine where this is an issue?
