Before seeing this thread I was under the impression my 1990 C2 was one of the earliest produced 964 C2s for the US market. VIN ending on 0541, and production completion date of 10/11/1989 according to the CoA. The person I bought the car from was the original owner and he told me the car sat on the lot for a year and a half before he bought it in July of 1991 (Carfax corroborates his story). These cars weren't exactly selling like hot cakes back then...

Have me stumped on this one. When I started doing this a while back I never verified the earlier cars. I focused on the years I had more than all of them. I must assume Adrian has errored. This needs some looking into. There seem to be an awful lot of cabs made in 1990 he states a number of 2067. I can only assume at this time that the 2067 applies to the 1990 Coupes and not the cabs but that is a guess.
Should we continue this in this thread or should this be the topic of another.
There clearly are no vins below 061. So I guess the next big question is not a vin below 0061 instead we need to see how many are above Adrian's numbers. My guess is the 2067 number should apply to the Coupes not the cabs and this changes everything for the earlier cars.

This is one of those things I wish Porsche AG would just fess up and say they suck at record keeping, but according to their records cars were known from XXXX serial to XXXX serial for a certain year, and be willing to adjust should any valid documentation come forth.

Just reading the new edition of Excellence. Their 'Generation Gap' article quotes the following:
Around 4,800 964 Targas were built, in which around 1,300 were C4 models, with only around 400 of those coming to the U.S.
I was surprised to see C4 production figures separate from C2. I have always seen them blended. Not sure of their source.
I believe Adrian's figures showed 1,252 U.S. Targas, so if the figures from Excellence are correct, this would indicate 68% of Targas were C2. Wonder if this ratio would hold for coupes?
