Default 964 Headliner replacement cost

Does anyone have any experience replacing the headliner complete on their car? What is the cost likely to be.

No guesses please, just the facts ma'am.

All 4 windows must come out, and it is a good 10+ hour job.

Headliner itself can be very cheap if you source the fabric and use the old one as a template for shape and for machine sewing the chanels for the rods.

I did 2 already. Materials 50$. Hours, lots.

I am really envious of anyone that has those kind of skills; I am afraid tools and I are mortal enemies.

I was kind of hoping to hear what I could expect to pay at a experienced Porsche upholsterer.

I thought there was a DIY for replacing the headliner, but there isn't. At least not in the "How to" archive.
Too bad, because I'd like to tackle this one day.

I know you're in the US but this'll give you an idea...

http://www.southbound.plus.com/south...ist%202015.pdf

Page 27 - £276 supply or £655 fitted, both are +VAT @ 20% so you'll be looking at £785 ($1200) fitted.

These are a very respected coach trimmers in the UK, no affilation

Thank you, but the question was if anyone had experience with costs they could share.

The very first thing I did was get a price from a reputable upholstery shop here in LA, I would like to compare it to what other 964 owners may have paid.

Ta very much for the UK quote, it is about half of what I have been quoted here, usually things in the UK are dearer!

There is a knack to doing the job justice. Anyone can install a headliner but doing it right without stretching it and making the holes look all distorted or have waves in it takes practice and patience. I have done a number and my first one took me three tries to get right but that was on my SC years ago. Have it down now. An average price is around $1200 just to do the liner although you might find someplace that will charge you less. The concern is nobody will guarantee you that the windshield won't crack or any other glass and a lot of shops will cut the seal to remove the windshield. Easier and better odd in salvaging the windshield and other windows but now factor in the cost of new seals. Then there are the rust spots that are usually found which should be addressed.

How bad is your headliner?

It is a fairly good sized tear that came from unzipping and zipping back up the access to the sunroof motor. About 4 inches by 3 inches. Hard to ignore.

I know all the windows come out but $3,000 has me scratching my head.

i have a small tear, in an otherwise good headliner in my 89. i plan to get a vinyl guy to mend it and see if that works for me. the HL is one of those "not hard, parts not expensive, but a LOT of tedious labor steps"

Not sure I'd be comfortable having an upholstery shop do this job for the reasons mentioned above. Sounds more like a body shop that has experience working in these cars.
