Do these type of wheels have to be periodically serviced? Or is it bc you drive and track the car a lot that it eventually happens?

Bummer...actually didn’t realize that it would leak from there. I’d probably try to dap some silicon on it........ but then my OCD would kick in and I would take the wheel off and get it fixed. If you need someone to do it, I may have the guy for you. He’s a wheel nut and enjoys doing it. It’s not his full time job just passionate about it. He was going to pull apart all 4 of my wheels, repaint the faces and reassembly for just under $400. I had scratched one wheel face, wound up have Pacific Paint Match do it as they were touching up my wives and daughters car.

it’s an option if you need it.

Split and reseal, unfortunately. Don’t mess around with wheels. I recently relegated a set of RH wheels to rollers - too many issues. Stay safe.

Many bbs are siliconed sealed from the inside from the factory. Bbs RS for example. There is lots of info on how to do it online. I'm not sure if the E88's have the same configuration in regards to the inside seam but if so the silicone would mean never having to deal with this again..... unless you bend a rim. I suppose the down side would be a bit of extra weight- but its not enough that anyone would ever notice.

E88 just have a sealing ring between the halfs
i think I’m just going to rebuild all 4
new rings hardware and probably run a silicone bead on the half split after assembly

these are mostly street wheels. About 5 years old and 2 of them have leaks now.

the set on my gt3rs are airtight after more years and a LOT of track time

ill probably just have shop do it as the tires have to be removed....

Might not even need the seal if your guns to silicone anyway. Personally id jus leave them together and try the silicone. I think you'd net the same result.

Will hopefully have my 71 engine done around end of year.

will turn attention to the 964.

im thinking engine and trans gearing now. Them I’m done.

im thinking, something non traditional:
3.6 or 3.8
8k redline
full motec engine controls
itb gt3 type plenum
e85 support
a couple small turbos
target 500hp or so

i like n/a but you just can’t match the power of a turbo motor, and getting this sort of power out of na reliably is really really big $ so it can spin....

plus torque around town and in canyons is so fun....

hmmm........

Love this thinking very much... few ways to do it, I'd probably choose making turbos less intrusive and more n/a like with re: powerband.

Love the idea of Turbos! Any idea on what a 3.6 Twin turbo motor would run versus doing just a 3.8 build? In my head I'm thinking the cost would be similar but I have no idea. I have been trying to figure out what I'm going to do on mine as I think it time to up the power. Funny I hardly drive my 964 anymore as it just doesn't have the fun factor as my '74 that has nearly the same horsepower and weights 800 pounds less. Keep the info coming as I'm super curious on the Turbo Avenue.

split the wheel and reseal?
or just but a bead of silicone on inside....

I had the same issues on my wheels on my 968 Turbo S replica. I used silicone over the seam on the inside. No more issues and easy to dismantle by cutting through the seam with a knife (Do not put silicone between the liners and then assemble)

Kind regards

My engine is taking far longer than I expected. This Covid thing has done nothing but set me back and I am working on the slick top conversion on my other car plus a number of other engine builds. My engine will stay 3.6 with custom pistons and compression. It will be twin turbo'd with many upgrades but I have no need for Motec when Haltech will do the same for a fraction of the cost. I did not see the need for the ITB's when turbocharging and went with 996 GT3 plenum and TB with DBW and a slightly higher redline. E85 compatible which will probably never be used. This will be low boost no more than 0.5 bar very N/A feeling. I can push it to 8k but no need and I will easily see 500 rwhp using pump gas on the mustang dyno and that is a conservative number. I agree you can't beat the power and torque of a turbocharged engine but neither build is cheap to do properly. The turbo 'should' be more reliable.

I would hold off on any gearing changes until you do the engine build otherwise you might be doing that twice but it is key to a build like this.

GL looking forward to seeing what you decide to do.

add more lightness

strive for more refinement

stay na- chasing power & torque with turbos dulls the senses and strays too far from the essence.

I don't agree. When properly done you will be hard pressed to tell the differences other than the added power. It is all in the tune.
