Default 993 G50/30 (cup) realistic gearbox cost

Hi guy,
Thinking converting my C4 to C2,
I was looking at the different 993 gearboxes , the cup /30 seams to be the best ,....
Does anyone have experience on purchasing a low milage 993 cup gearbox or build a new one, is that expensive .....?
Thanks

I lucked into one,the owner was converting the car back to stock, we swapped transmissions g50/20 for g50/30,

I have had mine redone and even that was very expensive.

Chances of finding one at any price are slim to none. Even the /31 or more desirable /32 from and RS and RS/Cs respectively are going to be tough to find.

The /31 and /32 used to be available through the dealers , price last I looked was in the $15k neighborhood if you have one to trade, ie /32 for a new /32.

A friend just lucked into a redone /20. It was redone w/ roughly /30 gearing and he is falling in love w/ his 964 all over again.

Best advice is to look around but plan on buying and rebuilding a /20 or even better a /21. Be prepared for sticker shock as the good parts are extremely expensive and there are a lot of them.

Expect to spend 5 figures on it AFTER you find a core 20 or 21 to build one on.

I guess I got lucky...although it didn't feel that way at the time.

I found a 'deal' of a G50/20 that was promised to work 'perfectly' but in the end needed to be completely rebuilt. It was expensive (even Porsche bearings are super expensive) but still a lot less then buying a good G50/20 ($10k) and then spending roughly another $10k in parts and labour. So, your looking at close to $20k unless you find a cheaper transmission core like me.

My ratios are pretty close to the G50/30 except for 1st gear.

That's my story...and mine is not for sale.

Thanks for your replies,
Well it's a lot of money....I love my car But sometimes I am tempted to sell it and build one with a motorcycle engine , when I think it has 200bhp for 400kg and has an engine inc gearbox box worth 4K with a sequential 7 speed close ratio box ...

It is the 1400 cc Kawasaki ZZR, a friend of mine as one in his car , it is quite a small engine and light, even comparing to the smaller capacity engine ...

I've seen engines like that in Caterhams.

Why not buy Hock's 5spd? If you just want to make it 2wd it's a great option. 5spd gearing stock is better than a g50-20.

Yes I think you are right, 20 is not great , the only good one is the 30, I was thinking changing 4 Th and 5th for shorter ratios ?
In your opinion witch one is best the 03 or 05 , with 24.6 tyres 265/35 .
