Yeah- it's for both sides. I always just took them off to let water drain away when it's wet and sitting in the rain. But really, eager wouldn't build up anyway. So that doesn't really matter.

I'm currently online looking at heat shield materials and wondering if i should make a new set of tins that does a better job shielding heat from below. Would be interesting to see how low i could get the engine compartment temps...

Ah yes you are correct! Just added one to my ever expanding order from d911!

As for cooler engine bay temps.... Drive faster haha

Could you stick some kind of adhesive heat shielding under the tins?

Maybe. But for now it'll remain an idea..too many projects, too little time.

I need to get back to my intake. And i have another set of diff locks to reseal...new seal sets arrive next week. I bought another 40 sets since the last bunch were gone in 60 seconds...

Another 993 coil swap - this time to the enso/joe/bmike/gregg amazon green car...

So what is that... ejbmg...doesn't spell much...

But i have always had a thing for this car...

Such a satisfying job...i should make a kit. But the thing that holds me back is that i make the 993 coil pack into a bracket that everything attaches to. So my kit would require a lot of hand work...so that ain't happenen...but happy to do them one by one. Takes a bit of time, but in the end, it looks stock, and is easily serviceable in the future. And can always be returned to oem should the car ever be worth putting back to oem...but it won't. Sooooo we make it reliable and usable...

I still have no idea why anyone would want a 100% stock 964...there are so many changes we make to get these things right and "corrected"

And to re-document the one difficult part...this is the coil end you need for the coil side of the wires:

EJBMG lol.
Say bye bye to those brazilian silver coils and hello to reliability.
Bravo to Rob for making another 993 kit and to Kingsborne for making my new wires.

Btw...update on the Alabama car...suspension madness 001....from the beginning of time...

This is a teaser - 3.9 liter Peter Dawes designed motor. Connecting rods to drool over. Shorter stroke angles, rejournaled crank for bearings used in Chevy V8 race motors, pistons machined to scavenge more efficiently...the list is a mile long...

That said- we are building a street motor, not a race motor. So most of the design decisions have been basis the idea that we add hp and torque, but keep it drivable, reliable, and efficient. Looking to obtain approx 320hp at the wheels. Fun stuff. Peter is a fantastic designer and has lived up to his reputation.

For the trans rebuild- keep it simple. Upgraded synchros, new clutch packs, weld planetary gear pins. Then swap the axle flanges for C4 widebody axle flanges and build heavy duty rear axles.

And to bring it back to suspension madness...
We did suspension madness on this car, but that was way back when...and we did what was needed at that time. We didn't do what wasn't needed. And what was that? Well what wasn't needed was to reinforce the rear shock towers, add bbi rs uprights to the front, add monoball tie rods, elephant racing adjustable front end links, etc....and Ohlins? Maybe....
But the massive brakes front and rear are a given. So check that off...and any other "unnecessary" bits along the way.

Oh- and while the motor is out and getting new oil and fuel lines...make sure to replace the one fuel line that rarely gets replaced - the one that runs from the fuel pump to the engine bay. It's mostly a hard line- with a five inch soft line at the rear- in the bay- that is the cause of many a fire. So out it goes....

More to come.

Fair...

But I'm not actually designing or building this motor...I'm a happy passenger and consultant.

It's been quite the education though. Peter Dawe was at andial building the cup cars for the series that never happened. He's been very excited to do this with a C4, which wasn't his normal wheelhouse since he's been used to race motors and rear wheel 911...but we brought him some ideas and through some good back and forth, he has been able to put together a fantastic project and build...I can't wait to drive this car.

Unfortunately I'm not physically close enough to the shop to be out there all the time. So i don't have enough to start a new proper "how to build a monster C4 that's still drivable" thread...lol.

And as a plug for Dawes Motorsports...i don't have words enough to explain how good this experience has been. Fantastic shop. If i had a motor to build, i wouldn't hesitate on the decision. (Aka, when mine needs to be done again, it's going to Dawes- cuz I'm jealous.)

Did i mention I'm plasti-dipping my car greeeeeeen..??
