Default What are the chances of my valve covers been wrapped?

I’m using the original magnesium one and they are leaking. 1991 C2 with 132.000 kms.

My main concern is that:

- If I take the car apart and they are wrapped I’ll have to order the new ones and WAIT for them. Around 2-3 weeks.
- If I order them and the ones I’m using are fine (just need to be sanded and painted) I’ll be wasting my money.

Some more questions:
- Is it true that the bottom ones are more problematic? Is it a good idea to just to change the bottom ones and reuse the top ones?
- Is a good idea to buy used OEM aluminum ones? Do they wrap at all?

Thanks!!!

Befor you do anything don't assume it's the cam cover that's leaking. Any oil leaking from above will track down and along the edge of the cover. It's a good idea to remove the tin wear and clean everything then watch for a leak when the cars ticking over just to make sure.

Thanks Igaffz,

Top of the engine is dry all around and just solved leakage from the timing covers.

It's the valve cover 99%.

Another thing to check is the rocker shafts, looks just like it's the covers leaking when these start. You can get a seal kit for these if it is, the standard way is an interference fit between a steel shaft and an alloy carrier. Just about to do these on mine after being convinced it was my original magnesium covers. If not though your gonna have to risk being without or get your wallet out! I'm sure from a gravity point of view it's far more likely to be the lower covers.

Is there a way to check the rocker shafts without removing the valve covers?

wrapped means warped ... take them off, put them on a piece of glass and see!
Then if you need, order some and get them in a week from Gert or Rosepassion etc..
But may well not be the covers as said above.
