Any luck? I want to replace that seal as well, but do not see how you remove the old one.

The plan is to get a couple of quotes from shops. If they all insist on dropping the engine, then Goughary and I may attempt the replacement ourselves.

i think in "advanced training level 6, section 2" - second semester, goughary sits in a chair drinking his coffee and pretends like he knows what he is saying while mikeP is under the car being squirted with transmission fluid...

i think this may be a 'drop the motor' and have some space to work type of a situation...

does anyone have a DIY that they know of for this seal?

Install does not look too bad. Removal of old seal looks darn near impossible. I am sure someone has figured it out. I guess I will have to actually look at the shop manual tonight. I am sure that it will reference some obscure tool that is NLA.

Great, shop manual says:

"Lever out with screwdriver"

Installation:

"Press in with special tool 9254, making sure that position is correct"

I did not realize it was that simple.

Followed the manual and really was not that hard to remove the seal. Go figure. Just looked difficult.

Love it. Did you do it with the motor in the car?

No, the motor is out. The difficulty with doing it with the engine installed will be the drive tube being mostly in the way. On a lift, it might be doable. I bet very difficult with the car just on jack stands.
