Cult-Werk RS glass

anyone install this? How is the quality? It's a bit cheaper than OEM glass even with shipping and such..

DobermanDad 09-02-2015 08:52 AM

I'd do it over OEM. I've heard they're great.

I just saw what a rear windshield on eBay without the wiper hole for $149 btw.

I tried to buy it a few weeks ago, but they wouldn't ship to the UK :(

Bummer, seems like a really good deal. I was tempted to buy it, but rims are my priority at the moment.

Would look so good to not have a plug on the rear windshield and still retain the defroster.

The thing that bugs me the most about the US-spec rear glass is the stupid 3rd brake light. It drives me completely nuts. The 993 has a much better solution. I've been looking at the Cult-Werk glass, maybe I'll bite the bullet further down the line...

There was a 3.2 Carrera windshield for sale on Ebay not too long ago which would've worked fine, but after I purchased it and asked the seller to ship it suddenly it became broken and no longer available...

DobermanDad 09-02-2015 11:54 AM

I never minded the third light. But, it would look pretty clean without it.

Third brake light bothered me so much I went to a lexan rear shield.
I forget how much it cost, but certainly less than glass, weighs less too

Looking good Jjm,

What's your view on lexan vs glass for noise? Did you manage to get a green tint?

Chris

yeah i want to get rid of the 3rd brake light too :P

Last fall I got a good condition US spec window with 3rd brake light for $200 USD shipped with insurance to replace euro glass (no 3rd brake) and wiper hole. The glass tech didn't install the 3rd brake ground wire which I provided and it needs to come out. I've been running with the etched black frame for now. Not sure if the 3rd brake light is a $500 CAD concern.

I've been debating the Cult-Werk, and Fuch's (Specialized Windscreens?) solution. I think the Cult-Werk comes with an E marking.

Who makes a decent lexan window (4-5mm) with hard coating?

No tint. might be a small bit louder but I don't really notice it. Doesn't look mismatched to any of my oem glass at all. In fact it's much clearer than the oem glass it replaced. Granted that windshield was 25 years old. No issues yet with scratches or sandblasting which everyone warned me about. I figure is way less of an issue than a front lexan screen.
Next up is lexan 1/4 windows with vents.

It has an E1 marking. I understand it's a required European automotive safety standards thing.

I think it technically needs a DOT marking in NA to support that it's certified safety glass required by most states and provinces. ... perhaps I'm wrong.

Does anyone know the weight savings of the Cult-Werks rear window? I know Lexan offers a huge savings.

"ca. 10% leichter als das Original (Gewicht ca. 6,0KG)"
