Default Hello everyone, haven't posted here in awhile, but recently ran into a problem

Hey guys, I had this recent problem with my car, I can't shift it!

I bought the car a little over 2 years ago for $15k. It hasn't had any major problems and ive never had to put major money into it. It was a GREAT buy.

Anyway, when I bought the car, the clutch pedal was depressed about an inch or so.

recently, the clutch pedal had become more and more depressed, eventually it got to the point where it was almost all the way to the floor!

I was still able to drive it fine, the clutch pedal was just low, there were no performance problems.

The last time I drove the car, I wasn't able to put it into gear, the clutch was all the way to the floor and I couldn't shift. Eventually I was able to get it in gear and went on a 3-4 hour drive without any problem.

Earlier today I tried to go on a drive and was unable to get it in gear again. I tried to mess around with it for about 15 minutes with no avail.

I'm guessing it has a problem with the master cylinder? Something like that I suppose.

The car does shift into all gears perfectly fine when the car is off.

Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have any advice?

thanks guys! -garrett

I would start with bleeding/flushing the clutch hydraulics first. I do it annually.

+1 - check your roll pin, if that is ok, then bleed your clutch slave. Do these things before spending $$$ to replace the clutch slave and master. Most of the time, the simple fix is sufficient.

I've just taken the pedal assembly out, it looks like the roll pin has been replaced?

I Can see the pin stick out of the front, but also sticking out the rear, as if the pin was about an inch too long overall.

Also with the pedal assembly out, I can press up on the master cylinder about an inch without feeling any pressure.

Ideas?

New master in order, don't sod about, get it in pieces and have a look inside. Mine had the fluid go all greasy, with the cup holding the socket end slightly broken. New master, and all is good in the world, just remember to flush properly all through the slave after fitting.
