Strange clutch issue
Hi all,
I'm having a strange ( to me) issue I've not come across before.
It occasionally slips under hard acceleration in third gear and only third. No matter how hard I accelerate in 1st and 2nd no issues.
New clutch and lwf 30k miles ago can it be worn already?
Other things that happened recently before I noticed this.
Fitted wevo rear engine mounts pretty sure it was ok after this but I mention it because gear changes became a bit 'notchy' after I fit it
Replaced gearbox oil
Car was serviced and brake and clutch fluid changed
I fitted a metal plate to replace the wood at the pedals
I also fitted alloy food pedals.
So all these things happened about the same time but I havnt been driving the car hard.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Just what i was going to ask, a marginal clutch is more likley to slip in the higher gears so would be very strange it if was just third.
How many miles on the current clutch?
Have you checked if the gearbox bell housing is dry? Perhaps you have a leaky engine or gearbox seal thats made the cluch a bit wet and slippy?

Hi guys clutch changed at 70k miles. Mileage now 95k
Not won't do it in any other gear, just been for a long drive. To get into third I have to bury the clutch in the carpet and it's a but notchy for third since the wevo mounts.
In fact bite point is near the carpet for all gear and I'm pretty sure it has been since fitted.
No havnt checked the bell housing, do you mean externally?
It's just had a service and mot. No leaks mentioned.

Odd its only happening in 3rd.
Who fitted the wevos, perhaps the bolts were nipped up with the engine jacked against the chassis instead if letting the engine hang in a neutral position before the final tighten, could have caused some shift rod alighment issues and notchyness but doesnt help with the slipping in 3rd
Re the bellhousing i meant have a look through one of the various inspection holes to see if you can see any dampness.

Also if it's hard to get into gear, have you checked the condition of the master/slave? Is it fully engaging/disengaging?
How is the shifting with the engine off?

Hi,
No not checked those. I dabble with car diy but I've never had anything to do with clutches. I'll google how to check.
I'll try and change gear tomorrow with the engine off.
I fitted the wevos I followed the instructions to the t. But I believe they may have been removed again during service may have dreamed that ?

Hey
Clutch engagement on or near the floor suggests that you have a hydraulic issue.
The system is self adjusting and should be near the top of travel.
Have a look at the pedalbox to see if the rollpin is rocking. Very common issue.
How long does it take to pressurize your system. Listen to the hydraulic pump on key on position. I have s C4. It takes about 35s on a full charged battery. R u talking C4 or C2.
I had wonky engagement and hydraulic pump time of 90 sec that was cured by a full hydraulic bleed. Not just at the slave. Clear brake fluid at slave does not confirm the system is flushed. Had to flush the accumulator (bomb) and a couple other valves in the frunk.
Also its common for slave bleed valve to get stripped by overzealous tourque.
Mine was like it after a brand new clutch and TObearing from dealer. Never had slip though, just weird engagement point that seemed to wander a touch.
Power bleeder is a real help and replacement of slave not too difficult or expensive if you are inclined.
Good luck
