Default replacement guage lens?

I am sorting out my 964 turbo... given there is more traffic here then turbo forum (on production #'s alone) i fugure i would try my luck here.

Some of the lenses on my guages are either cracked or have hazing....
What is the cause, what is the fix and where do i get the parts?

Not sure where to get them, but I sent my gauges to North Hollywood Speedometer. They cleaned and replace trim rings and glass (on 2 gauges). They may be able to sell you just the glass. I just mangled the trim rings when I tried taking mine apart.

x2 I had my oil pressure gauge rebuilt by NH and they did an excellent job. They stock a lot of parts for these gauges so they may have them.

First thing that came to mind when I started reading. Unless they're crack, just polish them. Probably could even take the lenses to a jeweler or someone like that and have them do it.

I got a price for the lens from Pelican and NH Speedometer. Pelican was about $10 cheaper so I went with them. The hardest part about replacing it is going gently with the compressed bezel that keeps the glass (or plastic) on tight.

For the dials alone, contact him. He takes a while to reply but he does.

I'm able to manufacture the lens out of tough plexiglass like material. I made a few for myself and for a friend. Please email me and I can send you photos of before and after. They fit perfectly.

Isn't there a clear film coating on the inside that can be pealed off? Then you can reall get in there and clean them. I seem to remember something like that. They are hard to get to though.

There is a plastic film that can be removed I believe on both inside and outside faces, but I could not clean the film off. The price for new lenses are so cheap why go through the effort of trying to clean them. I purchased a new fuel gauge lens from Pelican and the diameter was smaller than the original. I almost sent it back but I made it work. It was just barely big enough to fit behind the lens frame, any smaller and the edge would be showing. I'm not sure why the diameter was cut so much smaller than the original. Like someone else mentioned...You can get this glass cut yourself locally. Take the lens out, take it to a glass shop and they will make a replacement. The pelican lens is just a cut piece of glass, nothing special that can't be replicated, in fact, it is thinner than the original plastic lens.

There is a clear plastic on the inside. Usually they start to delaminate and it looks bad as a gap opens. It can be removed however, it is intended to keep shards of glass from flying around in case of an accident.

To my recollection the only seal is the rubber gasket on the outside of the gauge that seats against the instrument panel. It was glass/plastic sandwiched between the metal ring and the gauge, no seal on the glass. I didn't take a seal off when I removed the original lens.
