Default Won't start, no spark

Did some searching, but didn't find enough to help fix the prob. Haven't had a lot of time to trouble shoot, so looking for a couple quick tips to help me cut to the chase...

Battery dead when I tried to start on Saturday, just a solenoid click when trying to start. Recharged the battery, now cranks over fine but doesn't fire.

Can smell gas in the exhaust. Added 5 gal of fresh gas.

Tried locking / unlocking car to diasble alarm system (does the alarm system kill ignition, fuel, or both?).

Dist rotor does turn when the engine cranks, but no spark at the plugs.

Swapped two spare DME relays, checked fuzes 34 and 35.

Power input to the DME?

Bad speed/ref sensor?

Thanks for any quick thoughts.

Jim, this could be the issue. I seem to remember a similar problem when I had a low battery. My memory is a bit hazy, but I think opening the frunk triggered the Alarm. Unfortunately, I can't remember how I disabled it? I think I entered the radio code. Have you turned on the radio? If so, do you need to enter a security code?

Could be. Odds are low that both failed at the same time, but its possible. If I don't come up with something else, I will swap out a coil to confirm.

Aftermarket radio, so no security code. It does turn on.

Question with the alarm, does it kill fuel and/or spark?

I recall the factory alarm only breaks the signal line from the Motronic to the DME Relay - So it'll stop the fuel pump.

I had the little Bosch control unit go bad on me, causing no spark. They are attached to the coil bracket.

This is worth diagnosing as well, but I doubt they would both go at the same time.

Since the spark is controlled by the DME, perhaps it is an issue between the DME and the above mentioned coil control module...
