I received this morning from Porsche GB a letter advising me that my car is outstanding a recall (AT07 - upper universal joint of the steering shaft).

My point is this - they only wrote to me because I wrote to them advising of my ownership of the car and asking them to check their records.

My local OPC has my chassis number, so don't assume that just because an OPC has seen your car that you are up to date.

I'm quite pleased - I get a free trip to the OPC and some work done!

My suggestion is to write to Porsche GB (or your country equivalent) and ask them to check their records.

Here in the states, your Porsche dealer can check your outstanding recall notices for you. I received the steering shaft recall for my 964 when I bought the car in 2000. The service manager checked all the recalls still outstanding on my car at that point too.

In the US, you can call Porsche customer service in Atlanta at 800-PORSCHE, give them your VIN, and they can tell you if there are any outstanding recalls.

I have an AT07-stamp from 1997, and also AT09. Called them up to check, as I remember one of them was an x-ray for cracks in a bolt in the steering.

I also have a AT07-stamp, from 1996.
This is the only AT-stamp my RS-92 has. Should if have any other?

Where can I find the discription of the AT07 recall.

The AT07 could be Safety Recall 96V147000: Steering Noise & Excessive Freeplay. That was, according to AllData records, the only recall for 1996 effecting '89-93 Carreras.

A part of the steering column upper universal joint cracked during the manufacturing process. This condition could result in noise and free play in the steering system and if left uncorrected, will result in loss of steering control. Dealers will inspect the universal joint for cracks and will replace cracked joints with new parts.

Owner notification: Owner notification is expected to begin during August 1996. Owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact Porsche at 1-800-545-8039. Also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Auto Safety Hotline at 1-800-424-9393.

I have a LHD drive car, originally from Germany but I do not have the original service book so have no way of knowing if this work has been done or not.

Who would I need to contact to find out and is there going to be any problem getting a UK dealer to sort it out if it needs it?

Jim,

I too have a German import & found out that it was due the AT07 recall when I had an OPC do my PPI. I just went down to my local OPC, they checked on the computer & examined it, free of charge.

Humm... what if I am in the US??... my car was imported from Sweeden... PCNA will not have squat on my car...

Anyway I can send my vin to someone to check on this?
