Default Has anyone seen this Oil pipe crack before and fixed it?

Prior Owner "Repaired a hole in the Oil filler neck with JB Weld Goop. I found it performing my 1st Oil change myself. Did a PPO & my ex-Mechanic
said nothing about it. See Photos - leave any advice. (Yes, I've seen the other post regarding cracks in other cars filler necks.)
Thanks

Oil Filter Removed... Hey what's THAT?

Upon Closer inspection....

Its soft and sticky like loose caulk.

Mine has a few deep cracks around there but it is only in the thickly applied under shield thats sprayed on. It's shrunk a bit with the heat. I recon yours is the same. Dig it out and check, worst case you're back where you started.

Do you have an actual oil leak or just a visual crack? If its just visual, I would leave it alone.

Thanks Guys... There is no leak. I just saw the goop and haven't picked at it. I'll just leave it alone and monitor it over the years.

I had a hole in the exact same spot and I used JB Weld to seal it. I used a long flat stick (like a popsicle stick) on the backside of the oil fill tube to make sure it was nice and smooth.

It looks like they used some kind of silicone caulk.

Thanks Mike. Looks like others have had it too. Bizarre that there's any stress on that tube? I'm wondering how that happened.

Bumping somewhat of an old thread.

Has anyone removed the oil filler neck before? Is it welded on to the body of the car or attached in a removable manner?

It appears to be part of the "body". See PET Pic 801-26 which lists the repair part (thread) for the filler neck

I changed my oil today and my car has the same JB weld looking substance on the base of the oil fill tube. I can't imagine every owner getting the same idea and using the same thing, so this must either come from the factory like this or done at the dealer as a technical service bulletin.

^^^^this. I think I saw on RL that it was done as a Porsche TSB. I have same soft sticky goop on mine. I don't think the crack can lead to an oil leak though.

Mine is the same. I've read elsewhere that if the filler neck ever broke, the official repair recommended from Porsche was to use this "goop" to seat the new one, thus making it quite common. I have not heard that it was added to all cars based on a TSB, but it certainly could be the case.
