Default Wheel alignment question

OK, this may be a really dumb question but how critical is a wheel alignment when changing wheel size? I am running 17" wheels for daily use but want to use the original 16" with different tires for track days. Does that even make sense?

I'm no expert but it seems to me that as long as the rolling diameter and offset of the wheel/tire combinations are close to the same, your stance won't change and the wheel rim size will make very little difference to the alignment.

Of course if you want your alignment to be set for better handling on the track, that's another matter.

Other more informed opinions are welcome!

Zero impact. But consider how under-tired a ~3200 lb. car is on available 16" tires. I had customers trying them in the early days of 964s, but we'd just trash the 245 rears. Of course that was with the Kumho/BFG of the early '90s. (Hoosiers seemed to be a different matter, but there you're looking at ~$1K/weekend on tire cost for even a DE.)

And if you're not on that couple of seconds/lap the car is capable of, you're not wearing a good street tire extra much at all.
