Default What grease for shifter assembly?

I plan on installing my RS shifter along with new bushings this weekend. I couldn't find any mention of what grease to use down there. What are you guys using?

At the very beginning of the workshop manuals you'll see a bunch of yellow pages that list all the previous TSBs that correspond to the existing model. If you dig up any of those TSB that cover shift installation they all say, "Shift rod linkage and bushing must be lubricated with grease (Optimally HT or similar) in sliding areas."

That stuff is Optimoly NR (000.043.110.01) which is a CV grease. Its been awhile but I vaguely remember that stuff having a smell that you would probably prefer not having anywhere near the passenger compartment, even under the rubber cover. Optimoly HT (000.043.004.00) is a copper based grease.

Isn't it just a question of using a grease that won't cause the plastic fitting to deteriorate? Or is there real heat down there too?

I imagine anything that is compatible with plastic and metal? Optimol MP0 would probably be better? I would only hesitate with NR because it smells/out-gasses.

Thanks guys, I ended up going with copper anti-seize. Seems to work fine, I'll have to see how it holds up.

Too late now, but FD Motorsports uses white grease in their DIY. Did you already have the oval bushings or did you do the cutting?

I did a friend's car first, his is a 94 so it already has the oval bushings. I made a tracing of the hole so I have a template for my car. I'll be doing mine this week.
