964 Gauge face and lens problems
Hi guys,
I bought a complete set of km/h gauges for my US 1992 Convertible. I was ok with the combination mph/kmh speedo, but they had cheap white lenses, and the lenses was delaminating. So they needed a refresh! Since gauges are seriously expensive here in Europe I was to cheap to buy good used ones. Instead I went for a set from a fire damaged car, which "just needed cleaning" per the seller. Oh well, I guess I couldn't expect anything else than what I got for the price I paid.... Anyway, I need to replace the speedo face and lens, the oil pressure/temp face and lens, and the oil/gas tank lens. So, my question is where to buy these parts? I would prefer OEM quality faces, considering how ugly the cheap white ones I have are. Are NH Speedometer's stuff up to OEM for the 964? I'll upoad som pics from my iphone in the next post. Thanks, Johan |

Milky lens, and the cover on top of the warning lights came off, leaving a jagged edge. Really hard to see on this pic.

Milky acrylic lens. Any chance these might be able to polish clear?

The milky plastic that is on the face of the lens. For those that know more than me...isn't it basically plastic security film? Looks and feels like it could be removed and then one could either reassemble the lens without it, or grab some 4mil security film online and reapply...
Thoughts? Maybe that's a question for north Hollywood speedo...mine are starting to peel around the edges and it looks an aweful lot like the stuff I use on my glass doors at home and my garage windows... |
For damaged gauge faces you could check with a custom plastics mold maker and get a replica custom made (heck sell them if it's worthwhile!!). Damaged lettering can be easily restored either DIY or paint shop.

Thanks guys! Yes there are a security film but the glass is still milky below. It seems the heat basically semi-melted the acrylic.
I think I'll just stop by a glass shop tomorrow morning and see if they can make me lenses. It's the speedo one that is the worst one since it has a hole to reset the trip meter. The strange thing is that my tacho and clock already hass glass lenses! Maybe someone replaced them already? I am not too concerned with safety, since I think the front mounted gas tank is more likely to kill me than glass gauge lenses.... :-) Regards, Johan |

Try separting the two layers of glass to remeove the acrylic liner which is there to prevent glass injury. I'm sure someone has done this fix on here.
Also replacement dials can be obtained from here: www.porschedials.com and you can have 'bespoke' detailing including |

I bought new glasses for mine - I think they were about $10 each from the states.

Thanks, looks like I have a friend that will cut the glass for me, and then I am waiting for response from reap as per recommended.
If someone have used black dials for sale, please let me know! Regards, Johan |

^^ +1 Had NH Speedometer recalibrate my oil temp/pressure gauge recently. Very happy with the service. Good chance they have all the parts you need.

Try Black Cat Graphics.
They did my new gauge faces. Great results, great price. Here is a pic of the graphics set https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3a7ece751d.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/rennlis...3a7ece751d.jpg |
