Default Airbag getting hot.

I did a search and came up with plenty on the subject of airbags, but none discussing my problem.

Twice I have noticed that while driving to work in the morning that my airbag is getting warm. I noticed this the first time while I had my finger resting on the left horn button in anticipation of somebody doing something stupid in front of me. I felt the center of my stearing wheel and it was pretty friggin' warm. It returned to normal temp by the time I got to work. Just a wild guess... this isn't normal, right?

My solution to the whole thing is to remove the stock wheel and bag, them replace with a MOMO Mod.7 wheel and put my ultra cool Supercup horn button on.

ciao,

Allan

I don't know about anyone else, but that sounds kind of dangerous to me. Would be no fun for that airbag to fire for no apparent reason, and might be the end of your car as you know it (tough to maintain control with an airbag in your face).

Unless someone else on this board can give you confidence that this situation is O.K./normal, I would get that thing somewhere quick for a professional check, or do your Momo swap before driving it too much more.

Dear Allan,
No this is not normal and I believe you need to do something about it rather quickly. If the wheel is getting hot this means that there is a chemical reaction going on within the airbag. It could deploy in your face so at least de-activate it. I would get it to an airbag specialist as a matter of the highest priortiy.
