Maybe I missed it in my reading of the last 16 pages, but could someone with the D.Morris top comment on how it compares to the cab in terms of wind noise, insulation, and weather tight? How heavy and difficult is it to remove? I'm considering going this route with my 911SC and this thread seems like the best resource.

That cost more than a new one.

$3,500 is pretty fair vs. new actually. If you taken into account what needs to be done to get it over here, painted, assembled, and installed, I would have taken this route all day long.

Part of my mistake was buying when the EUR/USD exchange was 1.40, so my cost to actually get here was nearly $5K delivered. It took several weeks, and you have to actually go to Customs at the airport to pick up and pay 2.5%. The whole thing was a lot of fun/learning experience, but if I had the ability to pay someone $3.5K USD and have it immediately, that would be a no-brainer.

I've got at least 6000.00 invested in mine. Love love love it. I just went back to the soft top a couple of months ago. It's nice to have options.

That is my old car and hardtop. I know I spent that much on it as I got all new seals at the same time. Putting in those back windows was an experience.

Good to see you are still hanging around here, Michael! What are you driving these days?

I moved to the dark side and driving a 2001 BMW M5. It is a beast and I have done a few nice mods mainly for suspension. I have to say this is the best forum, bar none. I have been very frustrated with the M5 boards. May need to get back in a 964 so that I can come back.

Ok new member here/1st post.... would love to hear how these tops are holding up and if you have regrets? I was also wondering about the weight difference +- compared to the original cab top.

Thanks
Jr

Default D. Moris 964 hardtop

It's probably more due to the state of some of the roads here in Hong Kong but the latches don't seem to have enough over-center tension on them. Every once in a while when hitting some especially brutal potholes or poorly repaired roads, one of the latches will release. Can't see anyway to adjust this on the latch itself so trying to come up with some kind of positive lock/safety wire setup for the square drive shaft. I think the cab top motor prevented this from happening before.

Anyhow, some pics attached.

Cheers

Any D. Moris hardtop in Hong Kong?

I just bought a used D. Moris top and am having some trouble understanding how the door seals attach. I purchased new seals, and to my eye they look identical to those on my old cab top.

On the D. Moris top it looks like the top seal screws into the top?? Is this correct?? Am I missing a piece??

Some pictures of what I'm looking at.

thanks,

Duncan

I understand the issue now. I need to transfer over the aluminum mounting bracket from the cab top.

I am in the process of installing my d.moris top. A few issues have come up.

1) D.Moris sent the wrong brackets. I had read here about this issue, and before shipment brought it up to try and avoid the issue. They assured me they had solved this but alas the wrong brackets were shipped. I had to wait another week for the correct ones.

2) I am missing the seal for around the rear glass. I see in the history here this seal was taped down with the glass where it is ultimately installed. My glass was taped in place as well, but no seal. So there is definitely something different from past shipments. And it takes forever to get issues resolved due to the time change and the summer hours of people on their end.

I did the removal of the ragtop and initial install for transporting the car and top over to the paint shop. Paint has been matched and is going to be fitted and sprayed today or tomorrow. Glass will be done also at this shop and they will warranty for leaks. Great shop specializing in vintage Porsche mods and restorations. They tell me they deal with a lot of fiberglass aftermarket parts and are impressed with the quality of this one. They anticipate only a small amount of trimming of the edges to adjust body gaps. Missing parts and poor installation instructions are the biggest challenges.
