Henrik (those on the Spa trip this year will have met him) and I are looking at putting together a 4 or 5 day tour of the Alps with the possibility of a track day at Mugello!

For now we have approx. 6 people all in 964's and possibly a number of others in a mixture of exotica.

Henrik, know's the Alps better than I do, he's pretty much mapped it out already, and he's posted the following.

"Mugello is with BAT Sep 16.

The plan is to drive mostly the French Alps, but would include Verbier through Chamonix, Aosta, Gd St Bernard & Pt St Bernard, Beaufortain, Col d'liseran, Galiber, Alpe d'Huez, Col d'Madelaine etc etc.
If Mugello is included we'd have some Italian Alp roads for the drive back north."

We plan to stay in comfortable, but inexpensive accommodation, and enjoy the driving each day rather than get into late night drinking. (hope that hasn't spoilt it for anyone)

There is no fixed agenda at this time, we just want to gauge what the interest is fro the London 964 group.
So who's in so far?

Here's a video (Rennlister made) that pretty much wraps up what a tour like this would all be about,

My schedule is looking pretty busy in September (incuding a possible job change) so I'll need to play it by ear. I'll know more in a week or so. Both Mugello and Imola are about an hour away from me so if you do come down this way I can certainly meet up there or maybe drive up in the the Italian Alps the night before and we drive back in convoy or something like that.

I'm at the ring 17-19 sept as there's porsche driver training ... Might tag on nicely
Also might make the cup race at spa the 13th.

Mugello by the way is a superb track with one of the longest straights, lots of awesome slope too and full of italian curves .. Some of the hill towns around there have grids painted on their main road for the local hill climbs ... Check out rlister Sergini.net for some great footage

Think the idea is to keep it relatively cheap - not stay in fancy hotels etc.

Damn, my car will be back in the UK only a few weeks before this while I'm stuck south of the Alps

If you guys make it down to Maranello (only 1.5hrs from Mugello and a 15min detour) there is plenty to keep you busy here for an afternoon or day, take your pick from,

Enzo Ferrari museum in Modena, think there is a Maserati display on
Lamborghini Family Museum tour by Ferruccio's nephew Fabio just north of Bologna, very interesting but hang on to your wives/girlfriends as he is a bit of a smooth operator
Ferrari Galleria, in Maranello (if its during the day I'll join you for a quick ice cream as I'll be busy slaving over a hot desk
The largest Maserato collection on a organic cheese farm just outside of Maranello, the cheese is worth a trip just on its own
Ducati factory tour and museum in Bologna (one you will need to be a member of the Ducati owners club for the factory tour)
Pagani factory tour near Modena

If you want to stay the night then I can recommend a very reasonably priced comfortable hotel just outside of Maranello.

Also happy to book up a large table for a slap up meal at a local farm, you will roll out when finished and your lap times will suffer but it will be worth it.

If you don't want to thrash your car around Mugello, I can sort out a route for a days driving on some fanatastic back country roads which starts at the beginning of the mountain road test loop as used by the local sports car manufacturer and you see in all the Evo and Chris Harris videos. You can have lunch in Pisa or Lucca and meet up with the track day hero's and all drive back up north from Mugello taking in a section of the Mille Miglia route up to Bologna.

Sorry for the hijack but thought some local knowledge might help with your trip

No prejudice here, anyone's invited!

Mike, Franks absolutely correct, on cost, we want to stay in comfortable hotels B&B's that kind of thing but nothing expensive, focus is on the driving, not expensive hotels, late nights and heavy drinking etc etc.

I'll do a bit of research and see what comes up and post some info.

Captain, if we did get down that far, it would be great to see you, car or no car and a bit of local knowledge is always handy, and what could be better than eating traditional italian food than at a local farm!
And some of the roads you mention could be great fun too, I've often thought of driving the Mille Miglia route.
By the way, I received a phone call from a customer about seat belts for an early 911, from the conversation i understood he worked at Ferrari, I asked if he knew you, turns out he shares the same office. it's a small world.
