I just dropped off my car to get a new interior and I decided to have everything removed except for the stuff in front of the seats. So in the rear they will put some sound deadening material, but I would be interested to know if this is enough for the heat. In other words, does it also protect against heat as mentioned above or do I need to investigate this a little more?
I like to have a comfortable cabin (still have AC)...

I am having a serious stereo problem now, as I they are putting in a RS interior and I removed the rear speakers.
I really need rear speakers so I was thinking to make little speakers in just above the rear seat area in the corners. The speakers don't need to be large to be effective. Its more 'fill' from the rear anyway.
I do have two high quality amps in the front trunk.

My problem is that I want to keep the car as minimalistic as possible yet have great sound. I love having good sound for the long trips.

Anyway, I told the interior guy to do his thing and don't worry about the sound system. He will just put in the RS interior and I'll take care of the sound system with the sound guys afterwards.

I'm interested to hear more about everybody's findings with Dynamat etc. for sound proofing the car cause thats what they will use in my car underneath the RS carpet.

These are my completely ridiculous Sinfoni Class A amps. (they were show models I got for half price...)
Since I got used to the high quality sound I really can't live without now...

I have an updated head unit, updated speakers and an amp somewhere (at least the PO gave me an instruction manual for an amp and speakers).

My car stereo sounds like sh*t. I really need to do something about it. I'll drop it at a stereo place so at least they can tell me what can be done.

Looking good Ricardo. Let us know how it went with the Mineral Spirits, I am thinking of eventually doing the same.

I like the idea of putting that sub box behind the driver seat. If i am hauling 4 people i will take the beemer. I have no bass coming out with the MB Quart speakers and RF amp. My stereo guy said those speakers are just mids and highs. He said there really wasn't a place to put a sub. Now this gives me hope. I like the bridging of the amp for the box and run rears from head unit idea.

I just replaced my Kenwood Excelon KDC-X995 with the Alpine CDE-HD149BT. In many ways I'm very sorry I did. It has nowhere near the sound quality that the old HU had and even with massive amounts of tweaking still doesn't sound as good as the 995 did out of the box. The Kenwood HU was replaced primarily because of the very poor visibility of the display in any light conditions (the Alpine is much much better) as well as a few added features the Alpine brought to the table such as SiriusXM ready (another disappointment).

I also was advised by Rod and purchased the X995, subs (JBL 8V3), enclosures, and an Audisson LRx 6.9 amp from him (I use Hertz Mille MLK 165s in the doors). Rod shipped the kit to me with the amp already setup and pretty much ready to go and as I say it sounded phenomenal out of the box.

While the rest of your components should prove very satisfying I hope you have better luck getting decent sound out of the Alpine HU than I have (it is sounding much better after the tweaking but still not as good as the Kenwood). It just doesn't measure up to the rest of my components...then again the 964 is hardly a proper sound environment

Hamah,

Rod recommended the Kenwood Excelon units to me first but the one currently in my car drives me nuts. I hate the interface, and the glossy screen is unreadable. Connected to an iPad I guess its the D/A converters and the pre-amp on the Apline that you are not happy with? i think the 149 model is just an improved screen over the 148.

I have the excelon x997, and the screen is my only complaint, but any decent hu is going to have a glossy screen, and thats really what the problem is. Maybe just an issue with the location of the hu in the 964. I love how much adjustment there is in the x997.

Good thinking on the 1 sub set up. I did a similar thing and replaced one of my rear seats with a sub. Unless they were very small, there is no way two people are sitting in the back seat of a 964, and I dont know any very small people at this point in life!

I have the Excelon X591 and I have the same opinion as you, it is impossible to read in daylight (especially in a cab) and I hate the interface. I'm ready to get rid of it but my local installer recommends another Kenwood unit saying they are the best sounding ones.

Kenwodd has higher voltage outputs, that might be one of the reasons too. Unless you are connected digital to the amp

If you plan on running rear speakers I would recommend using some sort of processing with them. I have been a long time 2 channel / non-rear speaker advocate until I tried out my friends car running a JBL ms8. I will be installing one on my 964 as soon as I get a free moment.

Thats what I have, its such a difference. I have a Pioneer DEX-P99R unit with DSP. The front tweeters, front woofers and rear speakers each have their own channel on the amp as well.
Took a specialist 4hrs to adjust the DSP using mics on the drivers seat head position and laptop sending all kinds of weird sounds.

964TT,

Professional system tuning, to get time aligned, flat frequency response at the drivers seat, is the one aspect I will be missing even though I know I can do a competent job on the initial installation and setup. You know how it goes, you can keep spending more and more when it comes to this stuff.

My audio bits arrived today from Rod (minus the subwoofer). Rod had 4 different types of Cashmere carpet so I sent him a sample swatch of my carpet for him to pick the best match. I should have a fun weekend installing all this stuff. His kit came with a nice wiring kit and some instructions on how to do it right.

I still have to do more mineral spirit scrubbing and scraping. The replacement rear sound isolation is on order from Germany so I will have to finish that after doing the main stereo install up front. Plenty to do!

Picture below is missing the RCA connector cable I have as well.

The Pioneer DEX-P99R is super nice, any pics of it installed? I bet it looks great
